Job Summary:

The Information Systems Manager will play a crucial role in overseeing and enhancing Van Kam's systems and technology infrastructure.

Reporting directly to the CEO, this position will work in collaboration with different departments and across all levels of staff and leadership to resolve issues, identify the organizations' changing technology needs, manage projects, and oversee change management.

Van-Kam Freightways Ltd (Van Kam) is one of the largest regional carriers in Western Canada specializing in less-than-truckload (LTL) transportation.

With 8 terminal locations across British Columbia, we fulfill shipments to communities within 1-3 days throughout BC and Alberta. Between our own resources and our partner network, our coverage extends beyond Western Canada into the U.S. and Eastern Canada.


Responsibilities:


Project Management

  • Communicate with customers, business partners, and staff across all business segments and contribute to system enhancements that will improve the operating effectiveness of the company. We are looking for someone who can spend time in the field with the employees to understand the unique inner workings of our business and industry.
  • Implement a strategic project management approach that prioritizes small to medium sized projects while maximizing team productivity.
  • Leverage existing and future programs to streamline processes and implement standardized systems for operations and admin teams.
  • Review current and existing processes and implement costeffective technology solutions.

Leadership and Development

  • Mentor, develop, and oversee IT staff at Surrey head office.
  • Coach, train, and influence staff across the organization to utilize technology as it is intended.
  • Assess and monitor the IT department budget and manage the allocation of funds.
  • Keep informed about the latest industry standards, emerging technologies, and potential opportunities that can enhance Van Kam's growth and competitive advantage.

Programming

  • Assist with daytoday programming requests.
  • Prioritize and distribute programming workload across the team.

Other

  • Travel to all terminals throughout BC is required on an as needed basis (1015%).

Required Qualifications:


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Excellent command of the English language, both written and verbal. The ability to communicate to all audiences of the organization clearly and effectively who have varying levels of IT knowledge and understanding.
  • Be technologically adept and proficient.
  • Strong understanding of software and hardware.
  • Be a motivated team builder and have strong leadership qualities.

Training and Experience

  • Previous managerial experience.
  • 35 years' experience programming in the RPG language (intermediate level).

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or similar field.
  • RPG Free experience.
  • Knowledge and an understanding of the trucking industry.
