The City is seeking an Insurance and Risk Management Advisor to manage the claims and insurance portfolio for the City as well as work with business partners to expand and mature its Integrated Risk Management Program.


Responsibilities:


The Insurance and Risk Management Advisor provides specialized analytical, advisory and consultative services in both insurance and risk management in order to assist the City in transferring/mitigating risk and maximizing opportunities to support achieving its strategic, project, and operational objectives.

This position reports to the Director of Integrated Planning and Strategic Services.


The incumbent is responsible for championing and administering the City's Integrated Risk Management Program, overseeing claims and incident management, being a strong partner with Occupational Health and Safety and, managing the City's insurance program.


Qualifications:


  • A postsecondary Degree in Risk Management, Business Administration, Insurance Administration or equivalent with seven (7) to eight (8) years related experience
  • A highly developed level of interpersonal skills and diplomacy to interact with a variety of internal and external clients.
  • Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • An ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in interpersonal dealings which are difficult, highly sensitive and confidential and may involve exposure to the media or public criticism.
  • A strong customer service orientation and the ability to build positive, productive business relationships
  • A strong orientation to teamwork
  • An ability to analyze and interpret administrative procedures, regulations, legal documents and contracts.
Special consideration will be given to those who hold:

  • Certified Insurance Professional (CIP) designation
  • Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP) designation
  • Certified Risk Management (CRM) designation
