Seniors' Hub Program Assistant

Type of Position:
Part-time


Hours of Work:15-20 hours per week with shifts between 9:00am to 4:00pm Monday to Wednesday. Flexible hours may be required based on operational requirements.


Wage Range:
$19 to $21 per hour gross.


Benefits:
Not eligible.


Vacation: 15 working days per year, prorated for part-time employees. Office closure over Christmas holidays.


Start Date:
As soon as possible.

CCSS provides engaging, low-cost and no cost family, youth, and seniors' programs and support services for North Shore residents. Our programming enhances social connectedness, wellbeing, resiliency, and promotes a sense of community belonging.

CCSS is based out of the Lions Gate Community Recreation Centre where we partner with North Vancouver Recreation and Culture, and North Vancouver District Public Library, to meet the needs of the community.


Overview of the Seniors Program


The Seniors' program, known as the _Seniors' Hub_, offers free and by-donation programs for seniors aged 55+, to maintain their social networks, make new friends and remain connected to their community.

Programs are designed to be flexible and adapt to changing requirements of age and health.

Our goal is to alleviate the social isolation, stress, and anxiety experienced by seniors as well as improve their overall health and wellbeing.

In addition to our onsite programs, we also offer outreach programs using our minibus to support seniors with their weekly shopping and visiting local attractions.


Overview of the Seniors' Hub Program Assistant Role
We are looking for an outgoing individual who is passionate about improving the lives of seniors in our community.

The Seniors' Hub Program Assistant will participate in the day-to-day operations of CCSS's services for seniors; assisting in the delivery of our outreach programs and the coordination of other seniors' programs and services.

The Seniors' Hub Program Assistant will contribute to the overall effectiveness and success of our services for seniors, helping them to stay connected to their community and linking them with other beneficial community supports.

The Seniors' Hub Program Assistant reports to the Seniors Program Coordinator.


Responsibilities of the Seniors' Hub Program Assistant

  • Works as part of a team to plan, deliver and promote CCSS seniors' programs.
  • Supervise, actively participate and provide leadership to participants in planned program activities.
  • Ensures rooms are set up to serve the programming and participant needs and room takedown and cleanup is done in accordance with current health and safety requirements.
  • Provides assistance to help seniors safely on and off the bus; ensures bus trips operate in accordance with current health and safety requirements.
  • Monitors program effectiveness and in consultation with program coordinator, adjusts programming content as required.
  • Assesses needs of individual seniors and provides information or referrals to appropriate programs and/or other community resources.
  • Responds to questions, suggestions, concerns, or complaints from participants or community members when they arise, escalating as appropriate to program coordinator.
  • Maintains knowledge of relevant community resources and identifies emerging needs within the community.
  • Builds and maintains relationships of mutual trust, respect, caring and support with senior program participants; creates spaces that feel safe, inclusive, and inviting to all.
  • Maintains program statistics and ensures that client information is maintained appropriately and confidentially secured.
  • Provides training and ongoing supervision, monitoring and support to all volunteers.
  • Assists and/or relieves other staff as required.
  • Assist with advertising and promotion of seniors programs offered by CCSS.
  • Adhere to all relevant policies and procedures related to participant safety, suspicion of elder abuse, and/or accidents.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities that may arise, based on the needs of the program.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum 2 years of experience working with seniors in a community setting.
  • A diploma in gerontology, social work or a related field would be an asset.
  • A relevant combination of education and experience will also be considered.
  • Current Emergency First Aid and CPR Certificate.
  • FoodSafe Level 1 Certificate an asset.
  • Class 4 BC driver's license is an asset.
