BUILDING SERVICES TECHNICIAN:

The Capital Stewardship Branch is looking for a Building Services Technician for an indeterminate position. The position is classified as a RÉ-04 ($59,364 to $75,591 per annum). Salary under review.

JOB OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Supervisor, Building Technical Services, you will be responsible for the completion of assigned preventive maintenance duties, emergency repairs on various types of mechanical and electrical systems as well as all assigned tasks related to the operation and maintenance of the mechanical systems in all the Official Residences located in the National Capital Region.

You will ensure that the repairs and maintenance comply with all applicable codes, health, safety, sanitary and environmental standards and in the best interest of the NCC.

You will interact daily with various stakeholders including property managers, residence staff and occupants as well as service providers to identify and correct technical problems.

You will supervise contract employees and subcontractors.


ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:


EDUCATION

A High School Diploma and a diploma or professional certificate as a Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Technician, Building System Technician, Plumber or in a related field to the position.


EXPERIENCE
Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in the following areas:

  • Installation, operation, repair, maintenance, and servicing of various types of mechanical and electrical systems;
  • Coordination with contractors and subcontractors for onsite specialized services;
  • Installation and maintenance of interior and exterior plumbing systems such as water lines, sanitary lines, storm lines, drains and large irrigation pumps.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Of residential and commercial HVAC and plumbing systems;
  • Of building and plumbing codes.

  • To interpret mechanical, electrical, and architectural drawings;

ASSETS

  • Experience working in heritage buildings with high end specialized finishes;
  • Knowledge of residential and commercial mechanical and electrical systems;
  • Provincial Gas Fitter Licence, Certified Plumber, Certified Refrigeration Operator Class "B" or Certified Pipefitter.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Will be on standby after working hours and may be called back to work;
  • May need to work overtime.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Possess or eligible to obtain Secret security clearance;
  • Linguistic profile: Bilingual BBB;
  • Position is in the National Capital Region. The person selected for this position must reside within a commutable distance from the workplace at 1 Sussex Drive (Rideau Hall), Ottawa, Ontario;
  • The person selected for this position is expected to always work on site.
