The System Refocusing Division (SRD) of Alberta Health, is focused on implementing changes to refocus Alberta's health system.

The refocused health system will be a single provincial health system with four specialized areas of focus managed by sector-specific health organizations: Primary care, acute care, continuing care and mental health and addiction.


Health System Engagement and Innovation team at System Refocusing Division is responsible for the design and delivery of the dedicated engagement with health care workers and Albertans, while supporting engagement with Indigenous leaders.

The Director will work with stakeholder partners to deliver engagement, and support all ADMs in Health to deliver on-going targeted engagement with stakeholders.

The team are also tasked with designing targeted and meaningful engagement with specific stakeholders and partners to ensure each of the new organizations have input before they are officially stood up.

Finally, the team manage all of the tracking and reporting related to in-person engagement, stakeholder engagement and online surveys.


This team are also tasked with the oversight and coordination of internal communications including messaging and products used by all other branches for meetings, presentations, standard responses etc.


Role Responsibilities:


Reporting to the Executive Director of Internal Communications, Change Management and Engagement, this highly specialized position provides leadership, strategic direction and execution of complex and innovative engagement approaches to help the Department of Health understand the attitudes and values of health care professionals, system partners, Indigenous leaders and Albertans.

The Director is charged with designing and delivering public, stakeholder and Indigenous engagement within the System Refocusing Division of Alberta Health.

They are also tasked with building capacity, best practices, templates, tools and innovative solutions and reporting in these areas. This position works in collaboration with the Executive Director to advise and conduct effective and efficient engagement.

In addition to support and advice, the Director provides big pictures perspective and political acumen to strategically guide all engagement activity.


Specific responsibilities for the position include:

Lead the Health System Engagement and Innovation unit:

  • To lead the design and implementation of strategic engagement activities for System Refocusing while offering guidance and support to other units in the department.
  • To prioritize and forecast engagement activities based on priority, policy and legislative agendas. This includes regular briefings to Executive and Senior Leadership teams, and at times the Minister of Health.
  • To develop innovative engagement oversight systems and processes for decision making including planning and reporting templates, and resources to ensure consistent as well as coordinated engagement efforts.

Lead oversight of engagement projects for System Refocusing Division:

  • To work in collaboration with Executive Director and other members of the Senior Leadership Team to maintain system level awareness of engagement projects happening across System Refocusing.
