HEAD SQUASH PROFESSIONAL (Contract)

The Club:

Hollyburn Country Club is a private family Club that provides its Members with an exclusive hub for activity, sport, dining, entertainment, socialization and business.

The Position:
The Head Squash Professional reports directly to the Director of Athletics.

This role is responsible for ensuring that Members receive the highest standards of squash instruction and customer service in a safe and enjoyable atmosphere in the Squash Centre.

This role is responsible for providing squash instruction and coaching, designing and developing effective squash programs; and administration-related tasks associated with squash services at the Club.

The Head Squash Professional recruits and manages effective assistant squash professionals, who help with the delivery of instruction and coaching services for Members through squash programs, clinics and camps.

This role is responsible for overseeing and administering the squash program and promoting the game of squash to Members by providing programming for all levels, ages, and abilities.

The Head Squash Professional is also expected to be involved in running tournaments, lessons, clinics and supporting league play. Compensation commensurate with experience.


Responsibilities:

Customer Service_

  • Ensure that all Members and guests receive courteous, prompt, and professional attention to their needs; utilize feedback to improve departmental operations and member satisfaction
  • Go above and beyond to demonstrate awareness and understanding of Hollyburn's aim to deliver exceptional service to its Members
  • Communicate and encourage staff to consistently meet and exceed the Club's service goals
  • Anticipate, react and introduce new programs to meet service needs

Management of Squash Centre_

  • Develop squash facilities, programs and events in cooperation with Director of Athletics and Squash Committee
  • Supervise enforcement of Club policies pertaining to dress, eye protection, court usage, court booking etc.
  • Contribute squashrelated content to the VIEW newsletter on a regular basis

Management of Programs and Events_

  • Coordinate, oversee and promote various oncourt programs including: city leagues (VSL, VDL, VODL, LDL, PSL, JSL), house leagues (Thursty League and Box League), junior and adult programming for beginners to advanced levels of play, Club tournaments and mixers
  • Provide Squash Coaching to ensure that Hollyburn players are well versed in technical skills involved in squash; proper rules, techniques, etc.
  • Mentor Hollyburn youth and foster positive relationships between Squash professionals and Members
  • Attend regular Athletics department meetings
  • Attend Squash Committee meetings regularly and assist Squash Committee in planning social events and tournaments

Management of Department Personnel_

  • Responsible for recruiting, training and supervising all other staff relating to the Squash program

Cross-Functional Work Relationships_

  • Maintain external relationship with Squash BC
  • Maintain external relationship with Squash Canada Games Committee
  • Liaise with Food & Beverage to ensure events and tournaments are communicated to Member Services in timely manner; work in collaboration for any food and beverage needs for tournaments or events
  • Liaise with Plant Engineering to ensure that squash courts and facilities are in working condition and are safe for Members; communicate tournament setups in a timely manner
  • Coordinate with Accounting department with regards to all Squash program billings; ensure that manual billings are accurate and submitted on time
  • Ensure upcoming events or tournaments are communicated to Member Services, Plant Engineering, and Food and Beverage departments in a timely manner
  • Ensure that program registration information and details are prepared and submitted to Athletic Manager in a timely manner adhering to deadlines
  • Coordinate with other Athletics departments to develop multisports camps and programs

Requirements:


  • NCCP certification current Level III
  • Has excellent communication, customer service and interpersonal skills; able to handle interactions with a wide range of personality types; strong ability to build relationships with Members/guests, coworkers and community professionals.
  • Proven success in establishing recreational programs, services and operations; ability to consistently meet and exceed yearly budget targets for products and services by creating innovative marketing campaigns and promotional materials.
  • Proven ability to work well with children and youth
  • Proficient organizational skills and computer knowledge
  • Ability to connect with Members of all ages; applies to on
