The Coordinator, Capital Projects position is an entry-level professional that assists in the implementation of a broad range of capital projects activities.

The job ensures Facility Services records are maintained, organized and digitized to support the department's operation.


The job assists in the leadership of project teams by utilizing internal/external resources to coordinate the design and construction of multiple projects.

The job participates on multi-disciplinary teams to support the department's operations.


Responsibilities:


  • Assist in preparation of design proposals
  • Coordinate some contract activities for construction, modernization, or renovation projects
  • Review drawings and specifications prepared by architects and engineers and prepares construction documents for project tender
  • Produce electronic versions of technical drawings using a computeraided design system. Includes record drawings, 'mini plans' and emergency evacuation maps
  • Work in consultation with department teams to ensure client requirements are met during the design and construction of approved projects
  • Organize and maintain Facility Services records including O&M manuals and digitizing record drawings
  • Review and assess the appropriateness of existing documentation and update existing documentation to ensure department goals and school needs are met
  • Maintain Facility Services' web page
  • Maintain and update Facility Services' project scheduling tool.
  • Participate in department and unit meetings and provide input into short
- and long-term strategic and operational planning

  • Maintains technical knowledge through a range of professional development activities

Qualifications

_ Technical diploma in an area related to Architectural Design, Building Construction, Business Administration, Construction Engineering, plus three years of directly related experience_

  • AutoCAD certification is required
  • Certified Engineering Technologist designation is an asset
  • Knowledge of construction methods, building systems and terminology, construction and shop drawings and specifications, fundamentals of AutoCAD drafting and design software
  • Knowledge of project management principles and techniques
  • Understanding of construction industry and best practices and contract law
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety, Workplace Hazardous Materials Inventory System (WHMIS) and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) regulations and legislation
  • Knowledge of Microsoft programs including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and MS projects
  • Understanding of the Division's and department's operations, business, goals and objectives
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to oversee the work of contractors
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to balance priorities and conflicting demands
  • Strong problemsolving and analytical skills
  • Strong consultation, needs assessment and consensus building skills and ability to convey technical information to a range of clients, partners and stakeholders
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong collaborative skills and the ability to participate on multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong client focus with the ability to influence decisionmaking
  • Attention to detail and the ability to work with numbers
