Job Description:

What you can expect in a typical day


The Mechanical Maintenance Planner is a senior planning position within our Construction, Projects, and Maintenance department at our Saint John Refinery.

This position executes planning activities, provides direction and alignment to resource plans, and mitigates risks to ensure maintenance timelines are met.

This role provides an opportunity to coach and mentor junior Planners through collaborative efforts to execute planning and scheduling activities.

Your roles and responsibilities:

  • Lead planning effort with other Planners, Schedulers and Field Coordinators to enter resource loaded tasks into our scheduling tool and optimize logic and resources through a resource leveling and critical path method analysis.
  • Monitor and validate that all schedules have the correct logic, are optimized, and reflect the agreed upon frequency. Troubleshoot and make/ manage any necessary adjustments.
  • Monitor/ manage contract services to assist the execution team lead and procurement ensuring the services are being executed as expected.
  • Collaborate with Specialty Planners to develop detailed plans with the assistance of Junior Planners.
  • Coach and mentor junior Planners to aid in their development and further their understanding as a scheduler and specialty planner.
  • Create weekly resource histogram forecasts and guide others on the preparation. Validate that these forecasts are current and accompanied by any additional commentary to ensure clarity and alignment.
  • Develop analytics with the planning and scheduling team as required by management or project controls team and also identify, plan and implement improvement opportunities.


Professional skills- Proven ability to maintain good working relationships with stakeholders- Strong verbal and written communication skills.- Experience dealing with multiple priorities and deadlines / proven ability to meet hard deadlines.- Strong attention to detail.- Good collaboration skills and positive attitude.- Experience and involvement in continuous improvement activities and the associated mindset- Strong organization and time management skills.- Ability to work flexible hours when required.

Education and experience- 10+ years' experience with 5+ years working in an Industrial Environment- Education: Red Seal Journeyperson would be an asset but not a requirement- Knowledge and understanding of technical drawings and specifications- Experience as any building trades journeyman, would be beneficial but not a requirement- Experience with Refinery operations, maintenance or supervision in an industrial environment- Experience planning and Scheduling in Oracle, EaM, and ViyizaJob Requirements - Work Experience
