RiverBend Recreation Coordinator
RiverBend Seniors Community is looking for a temporary full-time Recreation Coordinator. The position is available during a maternity leave, ending September 1st, 2024.


The Recreation Coordinator plans, implements, and evaluates all recreation programs in order to meet the physical, social, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and cultural needs and interests of the residents.

The Recreation Coordinator will report to the Strata President. If the Strata President is not available, the Recreation Coordinator will go to the Strata Vice President.

  • Responsible for the daytoday preparation, implementation, and evaluation of recreation programs that meet a diverse population of the residents. Ensure that programs are presented as per scheduled.
  • Assists with the promotion and publication of daily recreation programs as well as upcoming programs and events via calendars, posters and talking with residents and families.
  • Prepare the environment, plan, organize and set up furnishings and/or equipment in various areas for recreation programs or special event room bookings.
  • Teach, direct, and demonstrate recreation programs to residents while encouraging resident and volunteer participation.
  • Provides guidance, assistance and support to program participant, other staff members, and volunteers.
  • Provides input into planning and evaluating recreation programs by reporting observations and resident feedback to their supervisor.
  • Completes recording and statistical sheets on recreation programs including attendance at each program, if required.
  • Decorates the community in accordance with recognized holidays such as Christmas, Easter, Remembrance Day, Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Canada Day, etc.
  • Assists in the orientation of recreation procedures and the use of recreational equipment.
  • Complete and maintain financial records of the recreation department. Monthly reconciliation of the bank account and petty cash.
  • Create a fundraising program plan for annual review.
  • Purchase program supplies as needed.
  • Participates in staff development programs and serves on committees as needed.
  • Ensures recreational equipment and supplies are used, maintained, and stored in a safe, clean, and efficient manner. Reports unsafe or faulty equipment to their supervisor.
  • Accompanies residents on outings and during social programs if applicable. Checks to ensure residents safety during the program.
  • Is able to learn and share knowledge of fire and emergency procedures and policies of the facility; participates in fire and emergency drills.
  • Ensures all safety rules and safe work procedures are always adhered to.
  • Reports all hazards, incidents, near misses and workplace injuries to their supervisor immediately and in writing.
  • The ability to work harmoniously with people. Good at maintaining order as it is required in organizing large groups of culturally and religiously diverse people.
  • Effective and professional communication skills. Positively participates in being a team player. Shows respectful and courteous manner with residents, staff, and families (does not engage in any negative talk (gossip) with the residents or families).
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned by their supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 plus graduation from a recognized institution with a Recreational/Activity assistant course/ Diploma or degree in Therapeutic Recreation

OR

  • 2 years recent related experience working with seniors in a therapeutic recreation setting.

AND

  • Maintain a Class 4 BC driver's license. Will be required to drive the eight passenger RiverBend van
  • Maintains Valid First Aid Certificate including CPR

Job Type:
Fixed term contract

Contract length: 3 months


Pay:
$17.00-$23.00 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week
