Regeneration Community Services (RCS) is a non-profit community mental health and addictions supportive housing provider.

RCS was founded more than 40 years ago, to provide quality affordable supportive housing and support services to persons with mental health and addictions issues in Toronto.

RCS is proud to support over 400 individuals on their recovery journey, with a housing stock of over 350 units across the city.


Position Statement

Housekeeping workers are responsible, under the supervision of the site Program Supervisor, for cleaning of all areas of the residence.

The responsibilities include washing windows, cleaning washrooms, dusting, vacuuming, sweeping, washing, waxing and polishing floors, as well as other cleaning duties as assigned by the Program Supervisor, in accordance with the maintenance standards.


Specific Responsibilities

  • Daily cleaning of the staff and common areas of the residence. Cleaning includes, sweeping, dusting, polishing, scrubbing, vacuuming, washing and waxing of floors, washing walls, windows and other cleaning activities.
  • Cleaning all washrooms as well as the floors in these areas.
  • Removing garbage from all designated common and the office areas and putting any recyclable materials out for collection.
  • Regular pest inspection and preparation for pest control.
  • Laundry.
  • Assisting the Program support staff with emergencies, as applicable to the shift requirements. This may include assistance with the evacuation of the building in case of fire and/or as otherwise appropriate for the particular emergency situation.
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Program Supervisor.

  • To have knowledge of and adhere to the agency standards outlined in RCS' Employment Policies & Procedures Manual, in addition to, any other established protocols and processes within your individual program. To reflect the agency's core values of recovery, respect, empowerment and collaboration in your work.
  • Adhere to provincial and RCS privacy and confidentiality guidelines.
  • To ensure that relevant and accurate information is maintained and disseminated as required such as employee expense sheets, time sheets and time off requests.
  • To accurately adhere to the agency data reporting requirements if applicable.
  • To participate on agency committees on a voluntary basis if relevant.
  • To participate in agency special events as assigned by the Program Supervisor.
  • Attend mandatory team meetings.
  • When shift schedule permits, attend general staff meetings.
  • Engage in regular supervision in accordance with established procedures. This includes participating in regular appraisals of job performance and completing a yearly goal plan.
  • To engage in ongoing professional development as assigned by the Program Supervisor.
  • On a voluntary basis participate in the supervision of student placements, if applicable.

Qualifications

  • Related cleaning experience and/or training.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 30 pounds.
  • Knowledge of cleaning equipment, chemicals and usage.
  • Knowledge of health and safety standards.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to interact with clientmembers in a positive and supportive manner while respecting their individuality and autonomy.
General knowledge is required of the issues faced by vulnerable adults with special needs, which will include:
mental health issues, addictions, cognitive impairments and low income. Some understanding or knowledge of mental illness an asset.

  • Excellent interpersonal and English oral skills are essential. Experience in working with limited supervision but as part of a team.
  • First Aid and/or CPR certification and fluency in a second language an asset.
  • Working knowledge of English.
