Recreation Coordinator
Lions Housing Centres Inc. owns and operates housing and care facilities to provide accommodations for adult citizens.
We provide support that looks at the whole person, not just their mental health needs, but consider their physical, emotional, social, and spirtual wellbeing.
JOB PROFILE:
Under the supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, the Recreation Assistant assists in daily routine activities related to delivering the day program for community seniors.
This role involves providing personal assistance to members as necessary and maintaining a high standard of program delivery consistent with the organization's aims and objectives.
Responsibilities:
Assist in implementing programming in consultation with the Recreation Coordinator.
Ensure recreation equipment is prepared and cleaned for daily activities according to the recreation calendar.
Assist in maintaining established recreation, social, and specialized programs, promoting group interaction, cognitive stimulation, and individual enjoyment.
Facilitate and assist with activity programs specifically planned for cognitively impaired seniors.
Communicate new ideas and recommendations regarding program planning and participant objectives.
Provide assistance to participants with physical or cognitive limitations while maintaining sensitivity to their dignity.
Assist with setting up and cleaning program areas and serving meals and refreshments.
Maintain equipment and materials, ensuring safety standards are met.
All other duties as assigned
Job requirements:
Currently enrolled in higher education with the goal of continuing education after placement.
Understanding of the aging process.
Awareness of community resources.
Understanding of group dynamics.
Ability to assist with programs for cognitively impaired seniors.
Good communication skills, both written and oral.
Creativity and resourcefulness.
Ability to relate to and be sensitive to cognitive impairment.
Strong teamwork skills.
Physical stamina to be active throughout the day.
