Primary Function
Oversee all activities related to the delivery of the Preventative Maintenance Program and the services of Carpenters, Painters, Plumbers, Lead Mechanic and Lead Welder


Major Responsibilities*- Supervise, plan and coordinate work assignments and the administration of maintenance services provided by in-house trades and maintenance staff.


  • Supervise the administration of the Preventative Maintenance program and coordinate the annual preventative maintenance program.
  • Coordinate applicable trades for nonmaintenance activities to support shows and events.
  • Prepare cost estimates for the supply of services.
  • Liaise with all division coordinators, clients and thirdparty contractors in the provision of services.
  • Monitor and maintain all trades equipment is operating properly to verify state of good repair.
  • In accordance with the preventative maintenance program, verify inspections are conducted and equipment is maintained in proper working order.
  • Initiate and implement building operation procedures including inspections.
  • Assist with technical support and project management services that relate to inhouse capital works projects.
  • In conjunction with the Director, Facility Services, execute the grounds hazard audit program.
  • Oversee contracted maintenance services.
  • In conjunction with the Electrical & Energy Coordinator, oversee energy conservation for buildings, grounds and shows.
  • Assist with the administration of the collective agreements including dealing with union officials in the areas of negotiation, arbitration and grievances.
  • Oversee the Food Building Maintenance Program in conjunction with the Canadian National Exhibition Association.
  • Assist in the administration and enforcement of Health & Safety, including the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
  • Working with the Occupational Health and Safety Consultant, develop and implement training programs for inhouse trades.
  • Assist with development and implementation of maintenance policies, procedures and standards.
  • Assist in preparation of tender documents, quotations and contracts related to maintenance services.
  • Provide input to the operating maintenance and capital budgets and monitor maintenance expenditures and recoveries.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in a discipline pertinent to job function or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Several years' experience in building and facility maintenance.
  • Extensive experience in supervising staff in an event environment.
  • Experience utilizing software packages (word processing, spreadsheets and electronic mail).
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written.
  • Proven customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to interpret collective agreements, applicable codes, standards, guidelines and government legislation specifically the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System, fire safety regulations and building codes.
  • Ability to work days, evenings and weekends including holidays, as required to support operational requirements.
