First Nations, Métis and Inuit Support Worker


A full-time individual is needed to serve as a First Nations, Métis and Inuit Support Worker to start for the school year.


All First Nations, Métis and Inuit (FNMI) students in Alberta deserve to meet or exceed the educational outcomes set for all Alberta students.

Medicine Hat Public School Division works in collaboration with education partners to implement programs and initiatives to eliminate the achievement gap between First Nations, Métis and Inuit students, and other students in our community.


These efforts include:

  • Providing supports for First Nations, Métis and Inuit student success;
  • Ensuring all MHPSD students are knowledgeable, understanding and respectful of the rich diversity of FNMI cultures, languages and histories; the importance of Treaties; and the legacy of residential schools;
  • Engaging and supporting FNMI students in fulfilling their vision for a K12 education system that honours Indigenous history, cultures, languages and perspectives;
  • Building strong relationships with and between schools and school authorities; First Nations and First Nation organizations; the Metis Settlements General Council; the Métis Nation of Alberta; Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada; and other ministries; to support the success of First Nations, Métis and Inuit students.
  • Foundational to this work will be the findings of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada and the Calls to Action.
  • Degree or diploma in an area related to social work and/or Child and Youth Care worker.
  • Three+ years of directly related experience;
  • Indepth knowledge base of traditional FNMI realities, the FNMI culture, community and available resources;
  • Strong knowledge of pedagogy and instructional programming;
  • Knowledge of the Programs of Study, the Professional Practice Standards and related FNMI curriculum;
  • Strong computer skills with ability to learn software programs such as PowerSchool and Edsby.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a collaborative team.
