Your Opportunity:

The Unit Manager in Labour and Delivery (L&D)

  • Women's Health is a key leadership role and reports directly to the Patient Care Manager, Obstetrics. This position is accountable for the overall performance of L&D delivery services provided in the assessment/triage area, L&D unit and Obstetrics Operating Room.

    The Unit Manager, L&D ensures the delivery of safe patient care to mother/fetus dyads at different stages of labour and immediate postpartum period.

This position is responsible and accountable for providing operational leadership and decision making in support of:
Direct patient care. Staffing. Attendance Management. Education. Leadership of L&D personnel including nursing and support staff.

Facilitating and sustaining the learning needs of nursing and support staff in order to optimize their professional and clinical development.

Identifying budget requirements for the unit to safely meet unit and patient needs and optimize unit workflow.

Resolving complex and challenging problems concerning human resources management and staffing levels in a unionized environment, to ensure adequate service levels are maintained.

The Unit Manager will develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders as required providing optimal and integral services.


Description:


The Lois Hole Hospital for Women Obstetrics program provides comprehensive obstetrical services to high and low risk obstetrical patients with an average number of deliveries surpassing 6,000 per year.

The Unit Manager in L&D is accountable for the overall performance of L&D delivery services provided in the assessment/triage area, L&D unit and Obstetrics Operating Room.

The Unit Manager, L&D ensures the delivery of safe patient care to mother/fetus dyads at different stages of labour and immediate postpartum period.

Following the principles of Royal Alex Way, the Unit Manager will foster team effectiveness by modelling excellent clinical practice and interpersonal relationships.

The Unit Manager in L&D plays a key role in the provision of safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Health Care Provider (BCLS- HCP)


Additional Required Qualifications:

At least 5 years charge experience in a tertiary care obstetrical center, or previous management experience in obstetrics. Bachelor's degree in nursing or higher required. Fetal Health Surveillance certification. Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification.


Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Connect Care electronic charting. OBIX.
