Graves is currently seeking an experienced Structured Cabling/Security Technician to join our growing team in the Halifax N.S. Area. As a Cabling/Security Technician you will be responsible for installing and troubleshooting voice, data and Wireless networks. You have the ability to lead projects and possess excellent customer relation and organizational skills. This position offers training and advancement opportunities.This is a permanent, full-time position.
The technician will be involved in all facets of installing and maintaining communication and low-voltage cabling infrastructure (fibre & copper) throughout commercial, enterprise, industrial, manufacturing, government, healthcare and multi dwelling unit (MDU) buildings in new construction, renovation, and expansion projects.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain cable systems by installing, repairing and upgrading cable infrastructure
- Run new cabling in new or existing buildings
- Responsible for the termination and testing of new cabling
- Perform major and minor preventive maintenance and repairs by troubleshooting cabling system issues
- Set up new telecommunications frames and equipment enclosures
- Understand, adhere to and promote environmental, health & safety practices
- Assist coworkers with installation and routine maintenance of structured cabling systems
- Ability to test, analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve complex issues
- Ability to manage workload to ensure jobs are completed on time and budget
- Job planning skills according to desired timelines, including the dissection of blueprints
- Strong manual dexterity and handeye coordination
- Ability to work in all weather conditions, confined spaces or isolation
- Ability to work in a physically demanding atmosphere including, but is not limited to carry, raise and climb a ladder, carry, lift and handle heavy equipment and/or tooling.
- Selfdisciplined, motivated and organized
- Basic computer processing skills to submit time sheets and progress reports
Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of cabling/telecommunications experience. Knowledge of telephone systems, wireless, Audio visual, and Nurse call systems considered beneficial
- Experience working with CCTV, Access Control, Intrusion Alarms.
- Previous experience with terminating and troubleshooting fiber optic cable also an asset.
- Valid CCS Certification preferred
- Valid Driver's license required
- Preference will be given to those with fibre optic splicing experience
- Supervisory or team lead experience is considered an asset
- Valid driver's license and clean driver's abstract
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or on emergency call outs as required
- Willingness to travel
