About the Position:


Reporting to the Manager of Care, the Personal Support Worker (PSW) provides personal care and performs selected tasks, which are within their knowledge and skill, under the direction of their supervisor while adhering to regulatory and Metta Lifestyles' standards, policies and procedures.

We are looking to fill both part-time and full-time roles. Days and evening shifts available.


Responsibilities:


  • Notifies the Health & Wellness Manager or their Designate of any resident and/or family concerns.
  • Attends and actively participates in daily communication meetings
  • Provides feedback in the assessment of every resident and participates in the development and updating of the Plan of Care.
  • Answers call bells when necessary.
  • Observe and report any resident changes in condition to the RPN promptly
  • Complete documentation on care as per the residence policies and guidelines.
  • Deals courteously with staff, residents, resident families and visitors.
  • Helps residents maintain independence, promotes dignity and physical safety of each resident.
  • Strives to understand and respond to each resident with empathy, always remaining mindful of the resident's unique communication patterns, history and basic human needs.
  • Assist the RPN's with monthly blood pressures and weights as assigned.
  • Assist with resident admissions and discharges when required.
  • Assist with any other duties as directed by the Health & Wellness Manager
  • Assists and attends to residents' special needs and activities of daily living as required; i.e showering, toileting, escorting, etc.
  • Maintains the retirement community in a clean, safe and sanitary manner.
  • Other duties as required.

Physical Demands:


  • Standing for long periods of time.
  • Walking on flat surfaces and up/down staircases.
  • Able to complete all physical aspects of job requirements.
  • Reading/seeing documentation both in paper format and on a computer screen.
  • Hearing differences in phone ring tones and/or in fire system horns or alerts for emergency response purposes.
  • Speaking/communicating to individuals with impairments and disabilities.

Risk Management and General Safety:


  • Partners with other team members to ensure community is in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety requirements and promotion of Risk Management programs and/or policies; adherence to safety rules and regulations.
  • Practices safety procedures at all times including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), fire safety procedures including extinguishers, SDSs (Safety Data Sheets) and Lockout Tagout procedures.
  • Reports all accidents/incidents immediately to the RPN.
  • Reports all unsafe and hazardous conditions/equipment immediately using the format provided by the home.
  • Complies with all infection control techniques, placement of biohazard containers and removal techniques, procedures and policies.
  • Participates in Fire Safety and Mock Disaster procedures.

Qualifications:


  • Successful completion of secondary school or equivalent.
  • Postsecondary education/certification in Personal Support Worker Program (PSW)
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Demonstrated empathy and understanding of the needs of seniors.
  • Effective interpersonal relationship and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to organize work and work under strict time constraints.
  • Must have a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness.
  • Must be able to operate related equipment.
