What can I expect to do in this role?: In this role you will:

  • Lead the implementation of OCWA's corporate energy program and support the climate change strategy in partnership with and service departments within OCWA.
  • Manage the planning and delivery of OCWA energy efficiency programs and services in coordination with financial support from Independent Energy System Operator (IESO).
  • Conduct energy benchmarking and greenhouse gas emissions reduction studies for OCWA operated wastewater and water treatment facilities.
  • Develop relationships and linkages between OCWA and municipal, industrial water and wastewater and First Nations clients across the province to increase the industry profile for OCWA as the primary engineering service provider in leading edge energy conservation and climate change initiatives.
  • Manage and deliver energy audits and assessments, develop Measurement and Verification (M&V) plans.
  • Prepare and present business cases to assist municipal clients in the development of Energy Efficiency projects and the attainment of grants through IESO incentive programs.
  • Provide technical support to pilot projects involving new innovative technologies related to energy conservation and climate change.
  • Provide energy engineering expertise, guidance and advice to OCWA on changing energy markets, technical energy conservation, climate change policy and strategic energy planning.
  • Lead an interdisciplinary team (engineers, process specialists, SCADA technicians, etc.) to deliver engineering solutions for energy management and climate change projects.

How do I qualify?:


Mandatory:


  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng) by Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO).
  • Degree in chemical or electrical engineering preferred.

Knowledge:


  • Knowledge and experience working with SCADA systems and process control is an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience working with the Green Energy Act.
  • Sound knowledge of the theory, principles and practices of electrical/controls engineering in relation to water and wastewater treatment systems, energy conservation, efficiency and climate change, in order to provide engineering leadership, expertise and advice to OCWA and its clients.
  • Knowledge and expertise in electrical engineering design related to water supply and treatment, wastewater pumping and treatment, and biosolids disposal.
  • Proficient in the preparation of proposals, reports, contract documents preparation and tendering.
  • Ability to manage client needs, project scope, budget, resources and staff, and schedule.
  • Knowledge of energy market and energy conservation funding programs in Ontario.
  • Proficient in MS Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

Experience, Skills and Abilities:


  • Proven ability to provide technical leadership and direction.
  • Project management skills to plan, lead, and conduct engineering projects across Ontario.
  • Research and analytical skills to lead/conduct engagement processes with clients on proposed engineering services.
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated strong oral and writing skills for the development of proposal documentation, technical business cases, reports, briefings and client correspondence.
  • Experience working in a teamoriented, collaborative environment.
  • Proven ability and interest in mentoring junior staff.
