Rainy River Mine
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit and underground, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.

The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario / Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario. The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. If you enjoy outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, winter sports and lake country then this is an area you will love to live and work in.

Applicants who reside in Northwestern Ontario and have experience working in a cross-cultural environment, coupled with knowledge of the unique challenges and opportunities presented to those living in the Northwest Ontario, are assets. Hiring priority will be given to qualified applicants who are beneficiaries of the Impact Benefits Agreement (IBA) and to qualified applicants residing in the Northwest Ontario communities. About The Role
Schedule:
2 weeks on 2 weeks off (FIFO)

Position Reports To:
UG Mine Manager

Position Overview
The role of the Underground Superintendent is to oversee all underground mining activities to ensure operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively. Your responsibilities will include managing the UG contractors, execution of daily production, coordinating with other departments, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. You'll be pivotal in meeting production and development targets and promoting a culture of continuous improvement. You'll have the authority to set objectives and guidelines, create schedules, delegate tasks, and develop strategies to optimize operations and fulfill project requirements. Additionally, you will ensure that goals are met while upholding and embodying New Gold's values.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee safety, production, quality, and budgets within your area of mine operations.
  • Lead and manage the underground mining team, including all UG contractors, General Supervisors, and some support staff.
  • Review and approve Contractor daily time sheets and delays as well as monthly invoicing.
  • Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to coordinate resources and resolve issues.
  • Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to enhance team capabilities.
  • Foster a positive safety culture and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Actively promote, monitor, and enforce adherence to safe work practices.
  • Collaborate with technical services to adjust mine plans, optimizing production and reducing costs.
  • Ensure all operations comply with safety, health, and environmental regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings, inspections, and audits to identify and address risks.
  • Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Manage inventory of mining supplies, explosives, and equipment to ensure uninterrupted operations.
  • Identify opportunities for operational improvements and implement initiatives to boost productivity, safety, and cost efficiency.
  • Analyze production data and key performance indicators to monitor progress and drive performance.
  • Track and report on key metrics, including production volumes, development meters, and equipment utilization.
  • Continuously develop and refine technical management skills and knowledge.

Qualifications

  • 15+years' experience in mining industry, with at least 5 years in a frontline supervisory role
  • Technical Degree in Mine Engineering or relevant discipline considered an asset
  • Previous experience overseeing work of contractors in underground mines
  • Ontario Common Core programs for underground and supervisors
  • Requires a total awareness of and commitment to health, safety, and the environment in the workplace
  • Excellent working knowledge of all Microsoft Office Suite applications especially Outlook, Excel, Word & PowerPoint
  • Strong practical experience in reading and understanding drive prints and other engineered drawings and maps
  • Practical understanding of geotechnical hazards and identification in the underground
  • Practical experience in modified avoca underground mining method
  • A valid Canadian driver's license is required
