Responsibilities:


Under the direction of the Manager, and under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist, the Occupational Therapy Assistant is an active member of the patient care team, works with individuals, families and groups to help educate and promote movement, occupation, and function.

Working collaboratively with their team, the Rehabilitation Assistant is responsible for the safe and proficient delivery of interventions that have been assigned by the therapists for patients coping with limitations in movement and daily function.

In this role, The Occupational Therapy Assistant also supports the Wheelease Program, receiving and troubleshooting orders for custom wheelchair equipment, coordinating workflow, repairs, purchases and shipments, and following up on checked in and out equipment as well as maintaining and updating the inventory system.

The Occupational Therapy Assistant works with Occupational Therapists and other team members to provide custom temporary wheelchair systems to inpatients throughout Central Zone.

The successful applicant may be required to provide services anywhere within the Rehabilitation Services portfolio.


Qualifications:

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Graduation from an Occupational Therapy Assistant program recognized by the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapy
  • Previous experience and/or knowledge of seating and mobility systems required
  • Ability to communicate well with both patients and their families and staff
  • Good interpersonal skills and be able to work collaboratively with team members
  • Minimum 2 years' clinical practice, preferred
  • Annual BCLS certification
  • Commitment to confidentiality and protection of clients' personal health information and an understanding of related policies and best practices
  • Strong communication, creativity, problem solving and organizational skills are required
  • Must be adaptable, flexible and demonstrate initiative
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively with health care team members, clients, caregivers and students
  • Competencies in other languages preferred, French an asset

Hours of Work:


  • Permanent, Fulltime position; 75 hours biweekly.

$ $25.82 hourly
