Duties:


Communications Strategists at the RCMP:

  • Provide communications advice and guidance in support of the RCMP priorities, strategies and programs, including building relationships with various partners, and raising awareness, understanding, or commitment to policing programs and objectives through strategic communications and planning
  • Prepare communications strategies and plans, which may involve the development of related materials (e.g., news releases, broadcast messages, media lines, fact sheets, questions and answers documents, brochures, social media posts, presentations, speeches, articles for publication)
  • Work closely with a wide variety of partners in support of communication efforts
  • Ensure emerging issues are identified and communicated in a timely manner
  • Work within the Government of Canada communications policy framework

We are in search of a Communications Strategist to support the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in the spectacular Northwest Territories.

The position is based in the vibrant territorial capital of Yellowknife, and will provide service to twenty-two (22) detachments into the remote arctic.

Intent of the process:

The immediate intent of this process is to staff one position on an indeterminate basis.

Please note the results of this process may also be used to staff other similar positions with various tenures in Yellowknife.


Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.

Notes:

  • Based on their education, training and/or experience, indeterminate incumbents of positions in the IS classification are deemed to meet the minimum education standard whenever a bachelor's degree without specialization is called for in a position classified as IS.
  • At the manager's discretion, an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience, may serve as an alternative to the minimum education standard.
Degree equivalency

Extensive* experience in developing communications plans and products

  • Extensive is defined as the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of related duties for a cumulative period of three (3) years.
Experience in media relations (e.g., acting as a spokesperson, preparing news releases, planning news conferences, responding to enquiries from reporters)

Experience providing communications advice and recommendations to stakeholders

Experience supervising staff

Experience coordinating and implementing communications services and/or projects

Experience developing communications standards, procedures and guidelines
