    DUTIES

    TRU's Williams Lake campus is located approximately three hours northwest of Kamloops, in the heart of the scenic Cariboo region, on T'exelcemc territory within the unceded traditional lands of the Secwepemc Nation.

    Our small, friendly and close-knit campus community is located within the city of Williams Lake, BC named in honor of Secwepemc Chief William. This region is rich in history and a plentiful selection of outdoor activities in untouched wilderness, from fishing one of the 4,500 lakes, hiking to mountain tops, to snowmobiling through fresh powder.

    The University and Employment Preparation Department at Thompson Rivers University, the Williams Lake Campus invites applications for sessional lecturer to teach the following Adult Basic Education course in the summer 2024 semester – June 24 to August 9, 2024.

    ENGL 0600 Literature and Composition:
    ABE - Provincial: ENGL 0600 is a Provincial Level (Grade 12 equivalency) course which prepares students for the demands of compositions required in academic courses. It provides for further development of writing and thinking skills begun in earlier levels. Students work with a variety of rhetorical models for essay development. Also included is a critical analysis of selected works of prose and poetry.

    QUALIFICATIONS


    • Master's degree in a relevant field required

    • At least one degree in English required

    • Teaching Certificate or Instructor's Diploma or 5 years teaching experience required

    • Experience teaching students whose educational, social and economic backgrounds are diverse, and for whom previous school experience may have been challenging required

    • Demonstrated evidence of scholarly teaching required

    • Minimum of 5 years teaching experience in ABE English courses preferred

    • Skills in building intercultural understanding, empathy and mutual respect (TRC CA 63) preferred

    • Experience integrating Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods (TRC CA 62) preferred

    Teaching excellence including developing culturally appropriate curricula (TRC CA 10) preferred
