The purpose of the Centre for Research & Education on Violence Against Women and Children is to promote the development of community-centered action research on the prevention of violence against women and children.

The Centre facilitates individuals, groups and institutions representing the diversity of the community to pursue research questions and training opportunities related to the understanding and prevention of abuse.


Responsibilities:


The Research Assistant (Media) will support knowledge mobilization activities within the Knowledge Hub (KH), through webinars, in-person meetings, and a variety of other resources (e.g.

reports, bulletins, videos).

The role will coordinate and test on-line web conferencing services for medium/large-scale events to highlight the research, and provide effective and efficient technology, multimedia and communications services for guest speakers in the delivery of online knowledge mobilization sessions.

The role will assist with participant connection instructions, best practices, security, break out rooms, monitoring and responding to online chat rooms, and addressing any issues or concerns.

The role will investigate and experiment with web conferencing tools and functionality, and make recommendations to improve the online experience for learners.


Qualifications:


Education:


  • 2 year College diploma in media and/or communication studies

Experience:


  • More than 1 year and up to and including 2 years' experience working with web conferencing software and tools
  • More than 1 year and up to and including 2 years' experience configuring and facilitating the delivery of large scale sessions using web conferencing software
  • More than 1 year and up to and including 2 years' experience coordinating social media platforms, communication and engagement strategies
  • More than 1 year and up to and including 2 years' experience in building positive and strong relationships with stakeholders

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of operating systems, web browsers, online learning platform and web conferencing compatibility issues and functional capabilities
  • Familiarity with the merits and challenges with a variety of web conferencing software (e.g. Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Skype)
  • Excellent troubleshooting ability along with handson expertise in technical support
  • Verbal and written communication skills with an ability to document technical information
  • Ability to investigate defined issues, solicit input, and suggest remedies and alternative approaches that meet the needs of the situation
  • Ability to establish rapport with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to maintain a positive, outgoing attitude with genuine service orientation
  • Ability to process information with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to multitask and maintain an organized and effective personal work environment
  • Adapts readily and effectively to changing priorities and demands
  • Personable and courteous in working relationships with colleagues, faculty members, students and the public
  • Ability to interact professionally with external research community members
