The Equipment/Material/Instrumentation (EMI) Coordinator contributes to the organizational efficiency of perioperative services and the operating room by functioning as an equipment, materials management, and instrument technician ensuring that all equipment, supplies, instruments, prosthetics, etc.

are available for each case.


Participates in service and hospital-wide activities and programs that model and promote a safe and healthy patient-centered environment and that contribute to quality improvement and risk management initiatives.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • In consultation with and on approval by manager or designate, requisitions equipment, materials and/or supplies according to established policies and procedures, prepare stock refill requisitions for signature by manager.
  • Monitors and reviews inventory levels to identify needs for purchasing materials, equipment or supplies.
  • Inspects and verifies deliveries and reconciles invoice against purchase order.
  • Issues and distributes materials, supplies and equipment to staff.
  • Answers questions concerning purchase requisitions, follows up on delivery dates, late deliveries, shortages and overages ensuring action is taken as appropriate.
  • Maintains accurate and uptodate database of supplies, equipment and instrumentation, and vendor information adhering to approved procedures and processes.
  • Stores materials, supplies and equipment as per approved procedures.
  • Confers with vendors as requested as per departmental policies.
  • Advises users regarding stock items or supplies and equipment suitable for needs; discusses problems or complaints presented by staff and users with manager or delegate.
  • Works in collaboration with the Purchasing Department to find sources of supply and obtaining quotes from suppliers as directed.
  • Responsible for identifying appropriate stock quotas in both direct and stores items.
  • Responsible for ensuring direct purchase items are reordered as required. Maintain accurate records for stock, direct order and consignment items. Actively does erequisitioning to manage stock volumes
  • Ensures that preventative maintenance processes for instrumentation and equipment are followed for equipment in conjunction with Clinical Engineering and PA1 employees.
  • Collaborate with Biomedical Department for equipment repairs and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Maintains accurate and uptodate databases (procedure file, preference list file) adhering to approved procedures and processes in collaboration with clinical service leads
  • In collaboration with nursing staff, and Central Sterilization (CS), ensures preference lists are updated on a regular basis as per established policies and procedures.
  • Monitors supplies used during cases to determine when changes should be made.
  • Ensures new preference lists are approved and created in a timely fashion.
  • Reports to OR Manager and/or CS Manager any problems, issues or concerns in a timely fashion.
  • Assists OR scheduling Secretary to determine appropriate preference lists as required.
  • Ensures backup Preference List binders are kept uptodate and are readily available.
  • Participates in Continuous Quality Improvements (CQI) activities, problem identification and problem resolution.
  • Participates in the design and redesign of processes regarding instruments and supplies as required including the clinical coordination of 3S0 back orders.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Graduate of a diploma Registered Practical Nurse program from a Community College.
  • A member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario or eligible for and seeking registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Medical Device Reprocessing Association of Ontario Technician Online Course or equivalent program certificate with ongoing recertification.
  • Medical terminology course is required.
  • 2 years perioperative nursing experience within the last 5 years
  • Previous experience
