We are currently seeking a Human Resources Professional to join our management team.

Reporting to the HR Manager, the Disability Management Coordinator is responsible for overseeing disability management program for unionized and management staff across seven worksites.

Primary responsibilities include WSIB claims management, non-occupational disability management, and acting as an advisor to all managers company wide.

Although this role has a strong focus on disability management, the Occupational Health Coordinator must also have a working knowledge of training and development/adult learning principles, recruitment and selection, and labour relations.

JOB DUTIES

  • Educate and train staff as it relates to disability management / WSIB claim management including the creation of training material for Corporate New Staff Orientation, and other health and safety topics.
  • Provide guidance and direction to administrators and managers related to disability management and WSIB claims.
  • Ensure timely and accurate WSIB documentation: review all Form 7s.
  • Submit and manage WSIB claims as required.
  • Correspondence, phone calls and meetings with WSIB including case managers, RTW and WT Specialists.
  • Claims management including return to work and modified work programs; review and approve all offers of modified work agreements ensuring they are prepared in a timely manner.
  • Employee nonoccupational injury/illnesses: review and approve monthly reports, correspondence and offers of modified work agreements.
  • Critical injury reporting (support administrator and attend scene if possible);
  • Assist in the development and implementation of health and safety and disability management policies and procedures.
  • Ensure Homes are tracking WSIB eclearance certificates.
  • Participate in WSIB appeals, mediations, arbitrations, return to work/work transition meetings and WSIAT tribunals (including the preparation and summary of WSIB claims files/documentation for appeals and arbitrations).
  • Assist with JHSC meetings as needed.
  • Participate in labour relations grievances and meetings with the unions at each facility as they relate to disability management, WSIB, and return to work issues.
  • Interpret regulations, legislation and company policies as they relate to employee health including but not limited to Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ontario Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Ontario Human Rights Code and Employment Standards Act.
  • Assists in the identification of potential risks from a health and safety perspective.
  • Assists with the corporate Employee Wellness Program.
  • A moderate amount travel between worksites across Southern Ontario (Fort Erie, Niagara Falls and Burlington) is required.
  • Other duties as required, including supporting the HR Manager with recruitment, labour relations, training and development.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A University degree or College diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Human Resources, or another related field or equivalent is required.
  • 25 years of experience in Human Resources, Health & Safety, or an equivalent combination of other experience and education is required.
  • Membership with the Canadian Society of Professionals in Disability Management or Human Resources Professionals Association in good standing is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of relevant legislation: Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Ontario Employment Standards Act (ESA), and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to interact with staff, residents, families, community professionals and various outside partners
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word/Excel/Power Point)
  • Ability to manage multiple, competing deadlines.
  • A valid G class driver's license with access to a reliable vehicle.
