BGC Weston Mount Dennis & Lawrence Heights Clubs serves over 2,500 children and youth in the Lawrence Heights/Weston Mount Dennis and surrounding communities providing social, physical, educational, creative, seasonal, and community support programs.

Your role as a Junior Camp Mentor will be to provide a safe and supportive environment for the program participants.

This program is designed for children 6-12 years of age. Program components include education, recreation, social activities, sports, health and nutrition, mentoring and the arts.

Locations:
St. Oscar Romero Catholic Secondary School (99 Humber Blvd S) *location may change to a nearby school*
Responsibilities:
  • Plan, organize and lead a group of children in a group setting
  • Ensure that you are creating a safe and enjoyable environment for participants
  • Create and facilitate fun, creative and inclusive activities for all participants
  • Ensure that all equipment and supplies are in safe working condition
  • Complete appropriate administrative tasks in a timely manner (i.e. attendances and head counts)
  • Developing and planning programs that meet the interests of children and/or youth between the ages of 6 and 12 years.
  • Ensuring programs are safe, age/developmentallyappropriate, noncompetitive, inclusive, innovative and skilledbased in nature.
  • Help to ensure the safety and security of the members and assist in responding to critical incidents as outlined in the Club's policies and procedures
  • Participate in staff training and orientation sessions
  • Ensuring the safety and supervision of participants at all times by strictly following guidelines and procedures (i.e. head counts)
  • Dealing with conflicts and behavior management immediately using corrective techniques as discussed in training
  • Report to, and takes direction from Program Manager and Supervisors
  • Do other related tasks, as assigned
  • Maintain professional relationships with peers, members, volunteers, parents and other Club members
  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings
  • Arrive no later than 15 minutes prior to scheduled shift.

Qualifications:

  • Educational background applicable to the position

Must meet all "Canada Summer Jobs" requirements including:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
  • Be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the
Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*; and

  • Be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.
  • International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.
  • Experience working with children 6 to 12 years old
  • Strong skills in one or more of the following areas: sports, arts, swimming, recreation, education, health and nutrition
  • Strong supervision and program planning skills
  • Good decision making and problem solving skills
  • Current First Aid and CPR training (mandatory)
  • Police Reference Check (to be completed upon hiring)
  • High Five
  • Principles of Healthy Child Development training (asset)

Contract Period:
June 26, August 18, 2023

*Must attend mandatory training from June 26 to June 30*Hours: per week Monday to Friday looking for individuals available 5 days a week
