Position Summary


The Youth Outreach Worker is directly responsible for engaging youth from Seabird Island, Chawathil, Shxw'Ow'Hamel and Cheam (age in youth-led programing, small groups and individual (one-on-one) sessions.

The core of this work will be out in the four communities.

From a youth-centered practice the youth worker walks along side of the youth to continually codevelop programs and opportunities where youth will grow and thrive.


The Youth Worker will be expected to develop strong and healthy relationships with youth that will include in-depth discussions/workshops and support related to youth issues such as suicide, sexual education, gender, mental health, drugs, and alcohol, and developing healthy relationships.

The Youth Worker will also connect their clients with needed programs and services such as driver's education, health services, mentorships, and social supports.

The Youth Worker will have emotional intelligence and are trauma informed.

For this specific position, the Youth Outreach Worker must be confident in their ability to engage with youth, feel comfortable initiating conversation, and running events/ programming specific the interests/ needs of the youth.

The Youth Outreach Worker must be comfortable with receiving a client caseload, initiating a connection with that caseload, and continuing a relationship.

This position requires a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the youth.

The Youth Outreach Worker will be expected to work different times throughout the week (including evenings) as well as some weekends.

The philosophy of this work is to build the skills and capacities of the youth to be leaders in their programs and communities, creating a safe space so that youth can be themselves and feel comfortable, to be reliable and consistent with clients and other youth, and connect youth with supports.

What you'll do

  • Connect and engage with Band youth ranging from 1224 years old, including engaging students at Seabird Island
Community School, Agassiz Secondary School, Hope Secondary School, and other school related programs.

  • Receive a caseload and connect with youth through onetoone support or small groups.
  • Facilitate youthled programs and events.
  • Ability to set appropriate boundaries and remain professional.
  • Guide and mentor inappropriate behavior of youth that may occur.
  • Build a rapport with community resources, organizations, and community members to develop new opportunities for the youth.
  • Research youth opportunities, services, and programs in surrounding area.
  • Connect youths with necessary and appropriate programs and services both at request and in a
proactive/preventative manner.

  • Ability to independently supervise up to 15 youth at a time.
  • Available for varied shifts to accommodate youth availability and activity schedule including days evenings and weekends.
