    Trinity Western University invites applicants for an endowed Chair in New Testament Studies. The occupant of the Chair will be an exemplary teacher, accomplished scholar, and sincere evangelical Christian, committed to engaging students, staff, faculty and external stakeholders to advance the mission, vision, and core values of Trinity Western University. The ideal candidate combines a rich understanding of the historical and cultural context of the Bible, a vital commitment to the centrality of Jesus as the ground of faith, forgiveness and renewal, and an ability to strengthen confidence in the authority, truth, and meaning of Scripture.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Applicants need to demonstrate exemplary classroom teaching; display intellectual rigour and spiritual maturity in the service of nurturing commitment to the authority of Scripture; clearly communicate the centrality of Jesus and the historical, cultural, and theological setting of New Testament; display a genuine commitment to the Bible as a coherent whole and Scriptural exegesis as the work and mission of the church; seek to advance an academic culture that nurtures students as master learners, and is committed to innovative teaching in multiple modalities (in-person, digital, and hybrid).

    The successful candidate shall carry out research in New Testament Studies and make a meaningful contribution to the wider academic community through publications, presentation, and active participation in scholarly organizations and societies. In addition, the Endowed Chair in New Testament Studies will support the Chair of the Department of Biblical and Theological Studies in reimagining curriculum and programs to align with the key strategic priorities outlined in "TWU 2030: Every Graduate Equipped"; champion positive and effective departmental communications with students, faculty, administration, and staff; support and inspire TWU faculty in their vital role of providing an intellectually engaging, faith-affirming vision of the Christian liberal arts; work closely with the Provost, Office of the President, and University Advancement to increase external confidence in Trinity Western University, and enable the department to play a key role in celebrating and partnering with global Christians as we seek to advance the work of God's kingdom in reconciliation and unity.

    Qualifications

  • Exemplary commitment to Christ-centred higher education
  • Five+ years of experience in Christian higher education
  • Excellent communication skills in written and verbal form
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level
  • Values and fosters collaboration
  • Commitment to the authority and significance of Holy Scripture for contemporary life, discipleship, and witness
  • Capable of displaying intellectual rigour, spiritual maturity, and confidence in the Bible as a coherent whole and the role of the Church in its interpretation
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with and engaging diverse students and colleagues.
