    Reporting to the Manager, Income Assistance and in accordance with the Social Assistance Act, regulations, policies and departmental procedures, the incumbent will be responsible for the integrated delivery of the Income Assistance Program and ensuring that all clients are positioned to make workable, productive choices. Counselling may include referrals to appropriate agencies to address employment barriers.

    Due to the fact that the Income Assistance Worker is often in a different community that their supervisor, they must work with a high degree of autonomy and independence to adjudicate eligibility and establish entitlement using problem-solving techniques, judgement, precedence, legislation, policy and procedures. This position has a significant impact on individuals, families and community by providing necessary supports to maintain a healthy lifestyle and to provide assistance with developing productive choices.

    The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through completion of grade 12, and 2 years or related work experience. The successful completion of the Income Assistance Worker Certification course and successful completion of Income Support Delivery System training is mandatory. This is a Position of Trust and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required.

    The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut's official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
