    Introduction

    The Legislative Counsel Division is responsible for drafting, translating and publishing the laws of Manitoba. It also provides legislative and parliamentary translation services to the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba through the Legislative and Parliamentary Translation Branch.   • Qualifications: Essential:
  • Extensive experience performing clerical and administrative duties in an office environment, including preparing specialized or highly complex documents and processing detailed documentation and manual and electronic file maintenance
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to write and proofread documents to ensure proper grammar, spelling and formatting
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Superior attention to detail and ability to ensure accuracy of work in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently to assist in the efficiency and effectiveness of the Division
  • Ability to work in a team environment, including working cooperatively with staff across the department and in other departments
  • Ability to apply sound judgment and exercise problem-solving skills to handle non-routine issues
  • Ability to manage confidential and politically sensitive material or situations in an appropriate manner
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word and Outlook) or equivalent software applications
  • Experience in preparing budget materials, Estimates submissions, quarterly cashflow reports and other financial information. Experience in anticipating forecast requirements, submitting information for budget, monitoring costs and analyzing variances

  • Experience with the development and maintenance of administrative procedures and practices
  • Experience with more complex features of word processing or database software, such as macros in Word or formulas in Excel

  • Duties: The position requires the performance of complex and specialized administrative and managerial work involving a high degree of initiative and responsibility in planning and directing activities. The position is responsible for ensuring the office operates effectively and efficiently by managing day-to-day operations.

    The position requires working in close collaboration with the Chief Legislative Counsel and Assistant Deputy Minister and the Executive Director as well as supervising a team of legal assistants under pressure to adhere to strict deadlines.
