Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Maintain heating, cooling and ventilation equipment by inspecting, troubleshooting cleaning adjusting and monitoring the equipment, performing scheduled preventive maintenance and record keeping.
  • Lubricate fans, motors and control units
  • Clean ducts, condensing coils, fans, water basin pans and drains
  • Install and replace air and water filters
  • Repair installed units by replacing defective, controls, switches, contacts, fuses, relays and associated wiring.
  • Keeping equipment in good condition and rust free by cleaning and painting as required.
  • Replace shaft and bearing assemblies.
  • Check and adjust belt drives for alignment and tension. Replace worn or defective belts and pulleys. Make necessary adjustments to ensure efficient operation.
  • Inspect humidifier systems and perform scheduled filter and bottle changes.
  • Maintain service documents, inventory records, inspection check lists and prepare written reports on equipment condition and maintenance requirements.
  • Use and maintain hand and power tools, measuring, testing and troubleshooting devices for electrical plumbing and mechanical equipment.
  • Install or dismantle components such as blowers, fans, motors, starters, etc, as required to carry out inspections or repairs.
  • Ensure equipment is safe to operate, securely stored and practice good housekeeping of vehicle and work area.
  • Provide excellent customer service, respond to needs of all customers and staff as required.
  • Efficiently and accurately complete paperwork e.g. daily logs, time sheets.
  • Perform other similar and related duties as required.

Position Requirements:


  • Working knowledge of various BAS controls and systems
  • Grade 12 diploma
  • Valid G1 Gas Technician License with consideration given to G2 Gas License with Refrigeration 313 trade certificate
  • 5 years of experience and working on HVAC equipment over 400,000 BTU's
  • Valid unrestricted class G drivers licence, DZ licence preferred or willing to obtain.
  • Formal training and experience with the Occupational Health and Safety Act in particular as it relates to maintenance and construction activities e.g. PPE, Fall arrest, confined space and working at heights.
  • Be able to work at heights and physical capacity to perform the demands of the job as described with heavy lifting up to and including 30 kgs.
  • Proven ability in other related building trades
  • Availability to work flexible hours e.g. working shifts for 7 days, 24 hour operation, overtime, winter control.
  • Willing to be trained on and operate snow removal equipment when required.
  • Effective time management skills and attention to detail with the ability to organize work to meet deadlines, prioritize, multitask and work independently in situations with mínimal supervision.
  • Exceptional customer service skills with strong sense of public service and cooperation, and well developed abilities to deal with the public and citizens groups.
  • Advanced computer skills. Experience with BAS (building automation systems).
  • Proven completion of Ministry of Labour Worker Health and Safety Awareness training.
  • A demonstrated commitment to enhancing a safety culture.

CUPE 150 - Pay Group 11:

  • $32.50/hour

Expected Work Location:
Lake St Service Centre


Hours of Work: 40 hours/week
