ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Is this the right position to help you achieve your professional goals? Some of the key responsibilities for the Analytical Chemistry Laboratory Scientist include:

  • Perform Analytical Chemical analyses (gas and ion chromatography, mass spectrometry etc.) for our analytical testing service customers and to support treatability studies
  • Responsible for Analytical Instrumentation calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Coordinate analytical samples and summarize data going to and coming back from external analytical labs as part of the natural attenuation analytical service: SiREMNA.
  • Support R&D initiatives to further SiREM s passive sampling portfolio
  • Prepare porewater/vapor intrusion passive samplers for orders, lead shipping logistics while maintaining active inventory.
  • Data analysis and entry using Excel including generating tables and figures for reports.
  • Deliver regular data updates to the Chemistry Services Manager and Treatability study managers.
  • Keep diligent QA/QC records for analytical instrumentation, update and maintain SOPs.
  • Mentor and train Laboratory Technicians as needed.
  • General laboratory tasks including sample reception, inventory and receiving supplies, preparation of chemical solutions, housekeeping.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with a focus on Analytical Chemistry and Instrumentation. (required)
  • Master of Science in Analytical Chemistry with a strong skill set in instrument troubleshooting, maintenance. (preferred)
  • Knowledge of analytical chemistry and sampling techniques associated with PFAS is an asset.
  • At least 2 years of handson laboratory experience, ideally including gas and ion chromatography, mass spectrometry, wet chemistry; or equivalent combination of education and experience. May include experience from academic settings. (required)
  • Familiarity with fundamental concepts in analytical chemistry and environmental science. (required)
  • Experience in PFAS analytical chemistry and sampling techniques (preferred).
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, be selfmotivated and possess a strong work ethic. (required)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills. (required)
  • Ability to multitask in a fastpaced environment. (required)
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 49 pounds unaided and pounds with assistance and/or proper engineering controls. (required)
  • Ability to regularly use hands to grip, grasp, finger, handle, or feel; and to sit, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. (required)
