- Coordinate and facilitate community food skills, cultural and land-based learning programs for diverse learners.
- Collaborate with Alex CFC staff to integrate Indigenous ways of knowing and cultural cuisine into community meals, food and garden skills programs, and community engagement/education initiatives.
- Collaborate with external organizations and groups on innovative programming initiatives.
- Facilitate groups, building a safe and inclusive space for participants.
- Lead activities that deepen understanding of traditional practices, increase knowledge and cultural safety, and build awareness of traditional food amongst staff, volunteers, and community members.
- Support engagement and education opportunities that help build cultural competencies amongst Alex CFC staff, volunteers, and community members.
- Support the CFC to incorporate traditional protocols and land-based learning into its programs and initiatives.
- Collaborate with the Alex's Indigenous Program Manager, Elders, other Alex programs and community partners to increase participation of community members who self-identify as Indigenous.
- Support team functions and responsibilities including engaging community members during drop-in programs, assisting other staff with their programs as needed, and responding to critical incidents.
- Network with other agencies and individuals to offer programs and services in conjunction with other CFC programs.
- Participate in broader activities at the CFC: planning, evaluation, fundraising and public relations, communications, special events and team activities.
- Degree or Diploma in Social Work, Human Services, Indigenous Studies, Culinary Arts, or related field; or a combination of relevant education and experience.
- 2+ years of experience in any area of nutrition, public health, food skills, kitchen management, social program delivery.
- Demonstrated experience working with marginalized people and people of diverse cultures and abilities in a community-based setting.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous food, traditions, and culture.
- Experience incorporating traditional protocols and land-based learning into programming.
- Excellent group facilitation, interpersonal, communication and conflict resolution skills.
- Experience working with volunteers and supervisory skills an asset.
- Satisfactory vulnerable sector police clearance and child welfare intervention check are required.
- First Aid and Food Safety Certification.
- Community-based setting working with marginalized populations experiencing barriers to community life.
- Flexible hours, which may include weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
- This is a permanent 0.6 FTE (22.5hrs/week) part-time position
- Continuous extended periods of sitting, standing, or walking.
- Occasional physical action, and requires the ability to bend/crouch, reach above shoulder height, kneel/crawl, and carry objects (up to 20 lbs.) throughout shift.
