- extensive academic training and post graduate coursework in the following areas
- knowledge of, and demonstrated application of the Ministry of Education's current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as outlined in the Manual of Policies, Procedures and Guidelines for Special Education Services
- demonstrated experience and ability in being able to carry out a variety of assessments, including classroom observation, curriculum based assessment and diagnostic teaching methods, administration and interpretation of Level B Assessments including the WIAT, PPVT, Key Math and TOWL
- demonstrated experience in and knowledge of methods for evaluating and selecting instructional materials suitable for students with a variety of special needs and learning disabilities
- knowledge of, and demonstrated experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of CBIEPs in consultation with the classroom teacher(s), parent(s), student and district personnel
- demonstrated understanding of and successful experience in teaching students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities, autism, chronic health and physical disabilities, and multiple disabilities as defined by the Ministry of Education
- demonstrated ability and experience providing skill-development lessons for students who are stigma-aware and hesitate to receive supports, present significant risk factors, and are categorized as C, K, Q, D, or G with the MoECC.
- demonstrated ability and experience working in a collaborative team to ensure learning access points for all students through integrated project-based and placed-based learning opportunities, especially for students with significant social-emotional and cognitive challenges.
- demonstrated capabilities in working effectively and collaboratively with classroom teachers, fellow student services staff, and as a member of a School Based Team
- demonstrated ability and experience collaborating with teachers to co-plan and co-deliver instruction that meets the needs of all learners through universal lesson design
- demonstrated ability in working as a Case Manager for students including interacting with students, families, school, district, and outside agencies
- Post secondary course work and successful experience in teaching students with social emotional and behavioural needs.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with students and families to work towards a graduation plan that best suits their academic needs (Evergreen, Adult Grad, Dogwood).
- Demonstrated sensitivity awareness and understanding of adolescent development and enthusiasm for working and fostering positive relationships with students with multiple challenges in a trauma informed manner.
- demonstrated experience in and knowledge of methods for evaluating and selecting instructional materials suitable for students with a variety of learning disabilities and implementing strategies for adapting and modifying curriculum
- willingness to cover the classes of other teachers to provide collaboration opportunities for other teachers
- demonstrated excellent classroom management behaviour management and classroom organization skills
