We are currently seeking an
Environmental Scientist to work out of our
London office.


Responsibilities:


  • Conduct a variety of field sampling and data collection activities to support hydrogeological assessments, surface water assessments, environmental site assessments, watertaking permits, UST removals, excess soil, site remediation and Record of Site Condition projects;
  • Complete fieldbased assignments such as groundwater elevation surveys, insitu hydraulic conductivity testing, pressure transducer (datalogger) installation, monitoring well development, drilling coordination and supervision, soil and bedrock core logging, test pitting, soil and groundwater sampling, sample preparation and submission to analytical laboratories;
  • Coordinate and communicate with subcontractors including drillers, excavators, construction contractors, utility locators and laboratories;
  • Prepare detailed field notes and complete appropriate fieldwork forms;
  • Assist in preparing fieldbased deliverables, including hydraulic conductivity testing data analysis, borehole logs, field data, photo logs and data tables with accuracy;
  • Prepare technical reports in consultation with the project manager or other more senior environmental professionals;
  • Liaise with clients, regulatory agencies, and contractors;
  • Comply with MTE's company policies and procedures pertaining to administration, I.T., finance and health and safety;
  • Other related duties, as assigned.

Qualifications:


  • Degree or diploma in Earth Sciences, Hydrogeology, Geotechnical, Environmental or Civil Engineering or (equivalent);
  • 03 years of relevant work experience (including coop experience);
  • Future eligibility for P.Eng. or P.Geo. designation is considered an asset;
  • Working knowledge of Ontario regulations and industry standard practices, including the Safe Drinking Water Act, Records of Site Condition, On-Site and Excess Soil Management, Ontario Water Resources Act, CSA Standards for Phase II ESAs and Occupational Health and Safety Act;
  • Understanding and demonstrated field experience in soil and bedrock classification, overburden and bedrock drilling methods, insitu hydraulic conductivity testing (slug and pumping tests) and soil and groundwater sampling protocols;
  • Experience in sample collection and use of field equipment, including dataloggers, surveying equipment, water quality meters and pumps;
  • Knowledge of mapping groundwater flow direction, calculating groundwater gradients (vertical and horizontal) and estimating hydraulic conductivity;
  • Familiarity with common software packages (i.e. MS Suite) and software specific to environmental geoscience/hydrogeology such as Aquifer Test and ArcGIS/QGIS;
  • Must have strong verbal/written communication skills and the ability to communicate clearly with a variety of individuals (e.g., project managers, laboratories, subcontractors and clients);
  • Must be reliable, well organized and have a strong attention to detail;
  • Strong time management skills, problem solving skills and decisionmaking abilities;
  • Extended time in the field is required yearround;
  • Must be able to lift equipment up to 25 kilograms; and
  • Valid G Driver's license and travel to project sites is required. Mileage for work related travel will be reimbursed.
