about the role:


The Chiropodist works collaboratively with the health care team to provide care to clients at our Sherbourne Health Centre location.

The role specializes and is responsible for the assessment and treatment of foot disorders including those of a structural or functional origin, congenital or acquired, and those disorders associated with disease, infections, or injury.

A focus for this role will be to provide foot care for clients at high risk of developing foot ulcers and referred through the Downtown East Toronto Ontario Health Team (DET OHT) Lower Limb Preservation (LLP) Care Pathway.

The DET OHT LLP initiative is part of Ontario Health's Lower-Limb Preservation Strategy (LLPS), which aims to (1) reduce preventable, non-traumatic major lower limb amputations across Ontario and (2) improve equitable lower-limb care pathways for early identification, cardiovascular risk, diabetes management, and wound care.


Day to day responsibilities:


  • Working within the professional scope of practice, the Chiropodist will create management plans, provide treatment and followup of disorders and dysfunctions of the foot and ankle, and maintain a client caseload.
  • Support the success of DET OHT LLP initiatives, including screening and escalating care according to established care pathways
  • Provide consultations, assessments, treatments, and followups for clients with complex wounds and diabetic foot complications.
  • Work with homeless and underhoused clients who face unique challenges around selfcare, access barriers and foot health in general.
  • Coordinate and deliver wound prevention and management education to clients and health professionals using a variety of modalities.
  • Participate in research initiatives and quality improvement activities as assigned.
  • Participate in teaching students, medical residents, staff, and allied health.
  • Provide referrals and treatment plans, etc. to Family Practitioners, Home and Community Care, and other community resources once clients are discharged from care

To thrive in this role, you'll need

education/experience/ skills and abilities:


  • Must have graduated from a recognized and accredited Chiropody program (or equivalent)
  • Must be currently registered and in good standing with the College of Chiropodist of Ontario (COCOO) for practice in all applicable clinical areas.
  • Certification or specialized education in wound care and diabetic foot complications an asset
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience in best practices wound care and diabetic foot, especially negative pressure wound therapy, pressure reduction surfaces and offloading devices.
  • Understand the social determinants of health and their impact on newcomer and migrant communities, homeless or underhoused individuals and members of 2SLGBTQ communities.
