Salary:

Primary responsibilities
Conducting testing and analysis of all products as required, including:


  • Mechanical testing: sample preparation, running tests, and reporting results for:
Tensile testing, Hardness testing (Vickers/Rockwell), Charpy Impact testing and Lateral Expansion measurement, and Guided Bend testing

Metallographic procedures: sample preparation (grinding/polishing/mounting) for hardness testing, and sample preparation (mounting/grinding/polishing/etching) for light microscopy and/or grain size measurement

Spark Chemical
analysis: sample preparation, sparking, data analysis, and reporting results

Heat
treatment: programming and setting the furnace controller and running a heat treatment cycle based on the required temperature range, heating rate, soaking time, and cooling rate.

  • Supporting Prooftest's Safety and Environmental policies and practices
  • Maintaining accurate records of test data, archiving reports, and testing samples
  • Calibrating/verifying test equipment and production gauging as per required frequency (daily, weekly, monthly, etc.)
  • Performing all scheduled preventive maintenance on laboratory equipment and test machines
  • Reporting upcoming NCRs and proactively proposing appropriate Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA)
  • Maintaining lab cleanliness, handling sample disposal, and performing inventory checks
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:


  • A postsecondary education in a Science related program such as Metallurgical, or Mechanical Engineering Technology and/or a minimum of 13 years of experience in a laboratory setting
  • Knowledge of fundamentals of mechanical/metallurgical testing and related standards like ASTM A370
  • Strong understanding of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills, highlevel of motivation, and ability to work independently or as a team member
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in using various types of computer software such as Word and Excel
  • Effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy

Physical and Schedule Demands:


  • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently
  • Working in a fast paced, multitasking, environment
  • Availability to work shift work and/or overtime
  • Must be punctual and possess a strong work ethic
