Clinical Scholar - RPN

Temporary Part-time (Until March 31, 2024)

Monday to Saturday (7.5 hour shifts)

The Clinical Scholar role supports the organization's mission, vision and values, goals and objectives, HPHA Guiding Principles, and quality based corporate priorities and continuous clinical improvements throughout the organization.

This role functions to facilitate organization-wide quality improvements, practice changes and legislated quality improvements and support and influence regulatory and HPHA quality practice changes through project participation, program development and sustainability.

The Clinical Scholar influences and advances nursing practice by utilizing strong leadership characteristics, effective change management methodology and successful mentoring and coaching techniques.


The Clinical Scholar collaborates with the Clinical Managers, Program Directors and Team Leaders to provide and promote ongoing professional development to nursing staff in response to identified departmental and individual learning needs; integration of best practices into daily work; and evidenced based program development through sound adult education principles to influence continuous quality improvement in clinical practice, patient outcomes and the provision of quality patient care.


This position will provide leadership, role modelling, clinical coaching, mentoring and the provision of educational activities to enhance knowledge transfer/uptake to achieve quality patient outcomes, empower staff and promote professional practice.

They will support professional practice, facilitating the development of critical thinking, self-reflective learning and crucial conversational skills.

Also support clinical practice changes in response to regulatory and organizational changes or safety incidents and other continuous quality improvements.

They will conduct ongoing adult learning needs assessments with staff and leaders to identify learning needs relative to improvement opportunities and ensure alignment with corporate and program priorities


This position will require travel to all HPHA sites and will be assigned to support specific clinical areas to support frontline nurses with skill development.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario required
  • Current certificate in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) required
  • Completion of 12 lead ECG, and cardiac rhythm interpretation certifications is an asset
  • Adult Education Certificate considered an asset

Experience:


  • Previous experience as Clinical Instructor, Preceptor, or placement supervisor is an asset
  • Extensive clinical experience as a RPN which would provide proficiency in all aspects of nursing scope of practice, effective teaching/learning of adults, and provision of patient care.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in teaching, working with learners or precepting
  • Minimum of 15 years' experience in acute care in medicine, surgery, complex continuing care and/or stroke/telemetry is required
  • Experience with using a variety of creative learning techniques and presentation skills
  • Creative, flexible and work effectively with a diverse group of individuals with a sound understanding of the many different adult learning styles and educational backgrounds.
  • Welldeveloped skills in assessing learning needs and developing and evaluating educational and quality improvement programs
Abilities:


  • Good attendance record is required
  • Demonstrate clinical competence and leadership ability.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills
  • Interest in and experience with mentoring, preceptorship and adult learning
  • Previous experience as a preceptor for nursing students preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning
  • Access to reliable transportation and hold a valid Ontario driver's license.
  • Selfdirected, motivated team player with a commitment to ongoing professional development and continuing education.
  • Competent user of Microsoft Office Suite products
  • Able to communicate effectively with all levels of staff
  • Willing to be an HPHA advocate and ambassador within the workplace and community
  • Superior presentation skills for learning programs
  • Superior interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Selfdirected and highly motivated individual with a passion for learning and supporting others in the process
