We are hiring one (1) Full Time, Permanent
Analyst, Project Risk position working out of Edmonton, AB.

Analyst, Project Risk will play a crucial role in EPCOR Water Services by overseeing project/program risk management.

Analyst, Project Risk responsibilities will include designing and implementing risk management processes for projects, maintaining risk registers, conducting both quantitative and qualitative risk analysis, and establishing a library of common project risks within the organization.

They will collaborate closely with project managers to identify risks, develop risk response plans, implement risk controls for individual projects, and manage risks across the entire portfolio.


This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the success of projects and enhance the overall risk management practices of EPCOR Water Services.

Analyst, Project Risk is a detail-oriented professional with a strong understanding of project risk management principles, this role will allow them to make a significant impact on successful delivery of projects in EPCOR Water Services' +$300M annual budget portfolio.

What you'd be responsible for

  • Develop, review, enhance, and implement risk management processes, tools, and systems in EPCOR Water Services.
  • Design and implement processes to eliminate or mitigate potential risks.
  • Facilitate risk assessment sessions with project teams using appropriate tools and methods.
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative risk analysis for projects/programs/portfolios.
  • Develop a library and database of common project risks.
  • Support project management team in identifying, assessing, and quantifying risks and opportunities that could impact projects.
  • Assist project managers in developing mitigation plans for risks and opportunities.
  • Estimate and allocate the risk management budget for different mitigation activities.
  • Provide training and coaching on risk management tools and processes to project teams and risk owners.
  • Prepare reports and present recommendations based on risk analysis.
  • Evaluate employees' risk awareness and provide necessary training.
  • Establish project and portfoliolevel analysis and monitoring of progress, including budgets, forecasts, KPIs, risks, and recovery.
  • Collaborate with Cost Control Specialist to set up and track project costs.
  • Work with estimators and other Project Controls Analysts to develop and update cash flows and forecasts.
  • Utilize Microsoft Power BI, Excel, Power Queries, and other tools for data analysis, visualization, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with the project control team to build and implement a robust Project Control System and Process.
  • Conduct advanced analysis and monitoring of project/program and portfolio performance, including risk, cost, estimate, budget, schedule, and senior management reporting.
  • Participate in operational excellence and process improvement projects.
What's required to be successful

  • Successful completion of a 2 year diploma or 4 year postsecondary degree in business, engineering, accounting, finance, economics, or related fields from a recognized postsecondary institute.
  • ISO 31000, PMP or PMI risk management certification is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in project risk management for multiple projects or portfolios.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in construction project management.
  • Knowledge of best practices in risk management for construction projects.
  • Strong familiarity with decision support tools such as MS Excel, Power BI, Power Query, MS Project, and Primavera P
  • Experience in improving project scheduling, budgeting, and cost control systems with implementing risk analysis concepts.
  • Knowledge of methods, practices, materials, equipment, and labor requirements in municipal utility and water industry projects ia an asset.
  • Strong understanding of ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP) or similar systems.
  • Strong decisionmaking and analytical abilities.
