Advanced Flow Systems Pipe Works is looking for an experienced and energetic
Estimator to join our Pipe Works Department at our facility in Calgary, Alberta.

  • Our
    Estimators have a
    starting salary range of $65,000 to $80,000 per annum based on experience and an assessment during the interview stage. Increases are then reviewed throughout employment.


The
Estimator is responsible for the management of estimating customer projects and developing a mechanism to assess the accuracy of the estimated verse actual costs.


Essential Functions for this Role are:

  • Developing various types of estimates for project work from conceptual proposals and budgetary quotes, to detailed estimates for ongoing projects utilizing estimating tools including rate sheets, databases and spreadsheets
  • Responsible certain aspects of the estimate on case by case basis

Responsibilities may include:

  • Establishing the estimating scope of work;
  • Preparing the estimate methodology and basis of estimate;
  • Producing the overall estimate schedule; and
  • Identifying all deliverables and interfaces with other disciplines
  • Coordinating and monitoring input from Engineering, Procurement, Contracts, Quality and operations to ensure a timely completion
  • Establishing the key parameters associated with the overall quality and accuracy of the estimate such as: equipment and material pricing, material takeoff, BOM and other, and labour productivity
  • Assembling final estimate packages (once trained)
  • Conducting detailed analysis of completed estimates including benchmarking against similar completed projects and reconciliation of completed estimate to prior estimates
  • Producing comprehensive estimate review packages for company and client review including all cost inputs, markups and margins, discounts and assumptions
  • Drafting customer proposals
  • Conducting preproposal review meetings for projects quoted
  • Maintaining appropriate backup and history of quote assumptions, exceptions, codes and calculations
  • Participating in estimate vs. actual results review after projects are completed
  • Offer suggestions for improvement and participate in team activities

Experience, Qualifications, and Skills required:


  • 5+ years' experience as an industrial estimator
  • Technical degree a strong asset
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Project, Word and Excel.
  • Strong understanding of business, data, process, cultures, and people
  • Ability to see the big picture while not losing focus of the small details
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills abilities, with the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to develops constructive and cooperative working relationships with crossfunctional teams and external parties
  • Strong work ethic, positive energy and a takecharge attitude while remaining humble and cooperative
  • Superior timemanagement and organizational abilities, with a strong ability to set and follow priorities
  • Strong sense of ownership and urgency with an ability to understand the importance of others' requirements
  • High ability to work independently, with an awareness of when to escalate a decision and ask for help
  • Appreciation of feedback and constructive comments based in a desire to improve and impress the customer
  • Proven ability to maintain composure under pressure and thrive in a fastpaced and, dynamic environment
