JOB:

Reporting to the Facilities Manager or designate, the Maintenance Worker performs maintenance and repair duties in a variety of internal and external areas related to Hope to Health Research and Innovation Centre, mechanical, electrical and equipment.

Organizes and performs preventive maintenance and repairs on lifts and other assigned equipment or requisitions and inspects repairs by external resources.

Receives deliveries from external suppliers

The BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS' Research & Innovation Health Centre (Hope to Health Clinic) is a unique and innovative health clinic comprised of a multidisciplinary clinical team focused on providing comprehensive care for clients in the Downtown East side.

The high-quality care provided by the clinical team focuses on HIV/AIDS, HCV and other infectious diseases and is supported and enhanced by ongoing research, innovation and wellness promotion.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Replaces plumbing fixtures such as sinks and toilets, repairs plumbing fixtures such as water supply lines and waste lines; repairs sprinkler lines.
  • Coordinates major repairs with external companies. Inspects repair work and arranges for further work if required.
  • Maintains inventory and records of equipment parts by identifying reorder points according to predetermined levels and placing orders by completing requisitions forms and submitting for approval. Maintains records such as work requests received and performed.
  • Maintains work area and tools for operating effectiveness, cleanliness and safety.
  • Performs safety checks on equipment and electrical appliances for defects such as faulty wires and improper grounding. Performs weekly sump pump and drain clearing.
  • Performs preventive maintenance procedures to designated equipment in accordance with department procedures
  • Performs internal and external daily rounds to ensure proper operation of the clinic, records information as needed and report any issues to manager.
  • Stocks supplies
  • Receives and processes deliveries
  • Sits on the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Committee
  • Performs other duties as required.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

2.1 Education, Training and Experience

Grade 12, plus two to three years related experience. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

2.2 Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to operate related equipment
  • Physical ability to carry out duties of the position
  • Ability to deal with others effectively
  • Ability to read floor plans
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Power Point)
