    Description

    The Position

    Under the general supervision of the Chief Administrative Officer, the Human Resources Manager is responsible for providing Human Resources support to the shíshálh Nation. The position will support the Nation's strategic goals to help drive the design, planning and implementation of these programs and policies while ensuring compliance with all relevant government legislation. One of the primary purposes of the position is to ensure that employee relations remain at high levels. In an effort to do this, the Human Resources Manager will be the primary contact for all matters relating to compensation and benefits as well as be tasked with investigating and resolving all matters pertaining to workplace accidents, employee conflict and grievances.

    The Candidate:
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with managers and staff related to human resources programs.
    • Maintain and update employee files, ensuring all files are kept confidential in keeping with privacy and legislation.
    • Complete all hire, change and separation paperwork.
    • Work with managers to ensure job descriptions are updated.
    • Interpret policies and provide related assistance and advice to managers and staff.
    • Provide HR coaching, advice and assistance to employees and managers as required.
    • Recommend policy and process changes to improve staff morale, satisfaction and engagement.
    • Oversee employee relations issues (e.g., employee complaints) in accordance with all legal requirements.
    • Proactive management of WorkSafe injury and other disability claims, focusing on prevention and return to work, and liaising with WorkSafe and insurance providers on claims.
    • Investigate accidents thoroughly and effectively in collaboration with the department managers, ensure accident claims are appropriately processed and prepare related reports and recommendations.
    • Oversee recruitment, employee training and development.
    • Perform all other tasks within the scope of the position.


    Requirements

    Qualifications, Skills and Abilities: 
    • A Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management or related field.
    • Chartered Professional Human Resources or equivalent experience or ability to achieve CPHR designation.
    • 5 to 10 years of progressive, all-around business experience with a proven track record of achievement and success in the Human Resources field.
    • Solid knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations.
    • Critical personal characteristics and skills include excellent judgment, maturity, compassion and integrity.
    • Ability to facilitate a corporate team approach.
    • Ability to delegate responsibility and authority as appropriate.
    • Ability to function effectively as part of the management team.
