Overview:


As the Special Investigator - Physical Damage you are responsible and accountable for the investigation, evaluation, monitoring and management of assigned investigations to protect Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI) from financial risk, and enable court preparation and testimony.

You will work in the best interest of the claimant while at the same time protecting MPI's interest to investigate and report on fraud trends, proactively identifying concerns and opportunities for fraud.


Responsibilities:


  • Investigate claims which may place Manitoba Public Insurance at financial risk

This includes:

  • Using superior case management, and organizational skills to collect information from numerous sources to form an investigative plan
  • Interviewing witnesses, claimants and other sources in the community. Obtaining comprehensive statements
  • Review adjuster and estimator notes and all related documentation
  • Review estimator and claim photos/videos if available
  • Review statutory declarations and / or statements related to the claim
  • Request and review police reports as applicable
  • When required, taking statements under charge & caution which eventually could be used in a court process.
  • Work independently in planning and organizing investigations in order to bring to a successful conclusion.
  • Ensures the investigation meets the standards for civil or criminal prosecution.
  • Exercise an extremely high degree of accountability in handling of confidential information obtained during the course of the investigation.
  • Conducts internal and other sensitive investigations as required
  • Meet with and / or contact insured, last known drivers, witness and any other person / information source relevant to the claim and obtain audio recorded statements

Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Business Administration or related field, plus 6 course credits towards the Insurance Institute designation (CIP)
  • Additional training/coursework in fraud/complex investigations is an asset.
  • Six years of progressive investigative experience, with experience in adjusting, estimating, and/or investigating fraudulent or risky claims
OR

  • Graduate of a recognized Canadian law enforcement program
  • Five years of progressive investigative experience
  • Fraud investigative experience in criminal or financial/commercial crime
