As a Swim Instructor, you will contribute to a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while providing effective supervision and risk management to the delivery of all aquatic's programs and services.

In this role, you will empower your lesson participants to gain the confidence and skills they need to progress through the program levels.

You will gain a new appreciation for safety procedures and equip yourself with the tools to enhance the safety of those around you well into the future.

Recertification of credentials are financially supported by the Y's in-house Aquatic Specialty Program team.

Position Responsibilities

  • Maintain active surveillance of participants and maintains great focus while instructing. You are the role model for safety rules, policies, and guidelines.
  • Develop and maintain positive friendly and respectful relationships with volunteers, members, program participants, and colleagues at all levels of the organization.
  • Help participants and families connect with each other and the YMCA.
  • Understand the YMCA's aquatics programs and schedules and refer participants and families to other programs they may enjoy.
  • Provide regular feedback by on deck/inwater coaching and bestpractice audits to improve individual and team performance.
  • Ensure YMCA Aquatics SAM (Serving All Members) standards are consistently met or exceeded and supports the Aquatics Coordinator in responding to service issues with timely solutions.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of the aquatics area while offdeck. Records completed tasks to ensure smooth communication for rotations.
  • Supports the department, branch and association in implementing and achieving goals.
  • Become an expert for all emergency procedures, pool and aquatic programming standards and best practices; respond to situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures; completes related reports or recommendations as required.

What You'll Need

  • Current Intermediate First Aid and current YMCA Swim Instructor (YSI) OR Lifesaving Swim Instructor (SI)
  • Current National Lifeguard (NL) is an asset
  • Minimum 1year experience in aquatic instruction
  • Able to obtain a Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search
