Industrial Product Designer – IP67 Enclosure for Rechargeable IoT Safety Device
Overview

We are developing a compact rechargeable IoT safety device and are seeking an experienced industrial/product designer to create an enclosure.

This is a real hardware product intended for mass production.
We are not looking for concept-only renders or visual styling without engineering feasibility.

The selected designer will work closely with our hardware engineer to ensure the enclosure is mechanically sound, IP67 compliant, and ready for injection molding.

To start, we need a simple, functional prototype that can be produced in small quantities (e.g., 12 units) for initial testing and delivery.

This will be Phase 1, with full production design to follow.

Scope of Work
Design a premium, minimal enclosure that can realistically be manufactured and assembled.
Core Requirements


  • Two-part enclosure (no visible external screws)
  • Snap-fit, plug mechanism, or ultrasonic welding solution
  • IP67 water and dust protection
  • Waterproof charging solution (USB-C preferred; designer may propose best IP67 approach)
  • Physical SOS button that is tactile, easy to locate in panic, and IP67 sealed
  • Speaker and microphone openings with IP67 acoustic membrane solution
  • Internal PCB mounting posts (M1.5 mini screws)
  • Internal rail or bracket for small antenna PCB
  • Integrated stainless steel key ring attachment
  • Injection molding ready geometry with realistic tolerances

  • Must feel exclusive and high quality in hand while remaining robust for daily carry
Project Phases
To manage the project efficiently, we'll break it into phases:

Phase 1:
Prototype Development (Initial Focus)
o Create a basic, functional prototype enclosure based on the core requirements.
o Deliver 2–3 simple concept sketches or low-fidelity models.
o Finalize one prototype CAD model suitable for small-batch production (e.g., 3D printing or basic molding for 12 units).
o Include basic cross-sections for sealing (charging, button, acoustics).
o Provide STEP files and a simple assembly guide.
o Material suggestions for prototyping.

o Quick turnaround:
Aim for completion in 2–4 weeks to enable rapid production of the first 12 units.

Phase 2:
Full Production-Ready Design (Follow-On)
o Refine the prototype into a fully DFM-optimized design for injection molding and mass production.
o Add exploded views, detailed snap-fit, and CMF proposals.
o Ensure all tolerances and manufacturing details are production-ready.
o Budget and timeline for Phase 2 will be discussed after Phase 1 approval.
We'll start with Phase 1 and move to Phase 2 based on successful prototype delivery.

Deliverables (For Phase 1)


  • 2–3 enclosure concept directions (sketches or basic models)
  • 1 finalized prototype CAD model

Cross-sections showing sealing strategy:
o Charging solution
o Button sealing
o Acoustic membrane placement


  • Basic assembly view
  • STEP files and prototype-ready exports
  • Material recommendation for small-batch production
  • DFM considerations for scaling to injection molding
Full deliverables for Phase 2 will build on this.

Required Experience


  • IP-rated consumer electronics enclosures (IP67 or similar)
  • Snap-fit design and sealing strategies
  • Acoustic waterproofing (speaker/mic membrane solutions)
  • Injection molding DFM knowledge
  • Experience working with hardware engineers
  • Experience with rapid prototyping for small runs (e.g., 10–20 units)
NDA is required before detailed PCB files and mechanical constraints are shared.

Selection Criteria

We are looking for:

  • Proven experience with manufactured IP-rated products
  • Strong mechanical engineering understanding
  • Ability to start quickly
  • Clear communication and realistic timelines
Candidates who meet all technical requirements and can begin work promptly will be prioritized.
Preference for designers who can handle both prototyping and production phases.

Future Collaboration
This enclosure represents the first production model in a broader product roadmap.
Additional variants and related hardware projects are planned following this phase.
We are looking for a long-term collaboration with a designer who can grow with the product line.

Contract duration of 1 to 3 months. with 10 hours per week.
