The Indigenous Relations Manager will be responsible for ensuring Bird's Indigenous Engagement Policy is effectively implemented to optimize Indigenous and operational objectives.

The primary responsibility of the role is to develop and implement Indigenous Engagement plans that support the Bird Business Development group, Bird Operations, and Indigenous communities in Atlantic Canada.

This position is based in Bedford, Nova Scotia.

Our national Indigenous Engagement Policy aims to ensure a consistent and culturally appropriate approach that respects the diversity of the Indigenous landscape in Canada, while supporting the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Call to Action #92.


Responsibilities:


  • Support implementation of the Bird Indigenous Engagement Policy.
  • Plan and deliver Indigenous community relations and engagement.
  • Provide support with activities related to coaching and mentorship to the Operations team and Management team on Indigenous protocol and cultural related matters.
  • Prepare Indigenous Engagement Plans for proposals.
  • Execute Indigenous Relations aspects of strategic plan
  • Provide Indigenous lens to BIRD's Strategic Plan and Business plan
  • Demonstrate leadership by championing Indigenous involvement projects
  • Support the activities and initiatives which develop relationships that will lead to improving Indigenous training and employment.
  • Support programs related to Indigenous employment training and community investment criteria development.
  • Maintain records and logs to support Operations with Indigenous engagement plans.
  • Attend applicable events such as career fairs, job fairs and conferences on behalf of Bird and report trends and information.
  • Develop presentations and support community information sessions related to Bird's involvement in communities as a result of upcoming or current projects.
  • Administer the tracking and reporting related to project goals for Indigenous participation based on the Bird Indigenous Engagement Policy metrics, Client requirements and CCAB reporting requirements.
What We Are Looking For

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A demonstrated history of and commitment to integrity.
  • Prior involvement in Indigenous communities is essential.
  • A degree or diploma from a postsecondary institution is considered an asset.
  • Industry experience in the construction sector is considered an asset.
  • A good understanding of Indigenous culture, history, customs, and beliefs is essential.
  • A high level of organization, planning and attention to detail is essential.
  • A positive, stakeholder orientated attitude is essential.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs is essential.
  • Ability to travel to Indigenous communities on a frequent basis is essential.
  • A valid Drivers License is essential.
  • Existing contacts with Indigenous Communities, Provincial and Federal Ministries respon
