    Description

    Position Purpose

    Be an independent worker able to plan, conduct and supervise complex or unique projects in extrusion coated woven polyolefins. Able to translate advances in polyolefin resins and additive technology into product improvements and new market opportunities.

    Principle Accountabilities

  • Focus: Expert knowledge of products, processes, and end users.
  • Able to manage multiple projects at a time.
  • Works with the sales force, manufacturing, and customers to determine the needs of the marketplace and to develop high value new products.
  • Works closely with suppliers to ensure any relevant innovations in resin, etc., are exploited in the design of our fabrics.
  • Supports all aspects of the product development cycle from idea through commercialization, including trials in the plant, field trials with customers, market development and technical support for the product launch.
  • Ensures that all legal and governmental codes and requirements are identified and met for those projects going forward.
  • Plans and formulates aspects of research and development proposals such as objectives or purpose of project, applications that can be utilized from findings, costs of project, equipment, and human resource requirements.
  • Reviews and analyzes proposals submitted to determine if benefits derived and possible applications justify expenditures.
  • Develops and implements methods and procedures for monitoring projects such as preparation of records of expenditures and research findings, progress reports, and staff meetings, in order to inform management of current status of each project.
  • Interact with various suppliers, customers, and corporate personnel such as technical sales representatives. Demonstrate an ability to anticipate, recognize, design, and implement solutions to problems. These should include fact-finding, use of resources, timelines, and appropriateness of solution. Challenges the way that things are done by promoting new ideas.

  • Related tasks as requested by manager.
  • Travel in North America and possibly other countries.
  • Essential Skills and Experience

  • A science major, chemical engineer, or materials engineer with at least 3 years of industrial experience, preferably in the areas of high performance films or plastics - On the Job Experience Required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
  • Must have excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Must be organized and able to handle multiple projects and possess an understanding of the responsibilities of an in-house research department and how multiple business units work together to develop new products for markets supported.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be detail oriented, results driven and conscientious.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to work with cross-functional teams.
