Job Summary:
The Kinark Outdoor Center (KOC) facilitates a range of outdoor education, therapeutic recreation and experiential adventure programs designed to meet the specific needs of its diverse client population including children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families.
Programs focus on strengthening family bonds through new and or shared experiences, providing a sense of belonging, and getting a break from routine.
Large group rentals of 15 to 95 visitors can be accommodated.
Reporting to the Food Service coordinator, the First Cook is responsible for providing healthy meals to clients, meet the dietary restrictions in menu planning, and oversee the daily operations of the food service department and ensure that quality service is delivered to our unique client base and in consideration of Kinark's mission and values.
Special diets include but are not limited to:
Vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, diary free, Halal and picky eaters.
Duties & Responsibilities (not limited to):
- Food preparation
- includes cooking, serving, dishwashing,
- Staff supervision responsible for daily roles and responsibilities of supervising staff. This includes providing ongoing feedback and motivation to the team.
- Contributions to inventory needs and preparing the dining hall for use pre and post each meal.
- Team meeting and Manager meetings regular team meetings with kitchen staff. Regular meetings with department leads to get informed on upcoming groups and their needs
- Preventative and ongoing kitchen maintenance and cleaning
Qualifications:
- Safe Food Handler's Certificate (Advanced status preferred)
- Requires completion of High School Diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of five (23) years of considerable position related experience required.
- Strong interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills, excellent leadership and problemsolving skills, and the ability to work within and lead a team as both a leader and follower.
- Experience working with families and/or a childcare setting (such as: camps, livein treatment homes, school system) with children ages 8 to 18 years old.
- Chef experience and certification (college or other) an asset.
Kinark Child and Family Services conditions of employment include but are not limited to successful Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening, completed Pre-Employment Medical certificate, and proof of full vaccination against COVID-19.
Fully vaccinated is defined as having received all required doses of a World Health Organization Approved COVID-19 Vaccine at least one of which being approved for use in Canada and 14 days have passed since your last dose.
