We are currently looking for a Greenway Leadership Trainer to join our team of committed professionals.

This full-time spring and summer contract position within the Association is housed at the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario's John Island location in Spanish.

Under the leadership of the Leadership & Outtripping Manager the Greenway Leadership Trainer is responsible for the facilitation of the first-year Leadership Development Program.

They oversee the planning, implementation, debriefing and evaluations of the program.

HOURS: 40 per week (Days, Evenings and Weekends)

Major Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize and implement the Greenway program
  • Support Greenway participants and focus on their technical skills such as wilderness travel, risk management, and other program areas of camp
  • Support greenway participants in developing skills in camp program area
  • Teach Greenway participants wilderness tripping skills
  • Follow and implement the greenway curriculum as it is found in the greenway trainer manual
  • Build relationships with and be a positive role model for all camper and other staff members
  • Assist in other areas of camp as well as programming and provide support during Family Camp
  • Other duties as assigned by the Association

Qualifications:


  • Possession of an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) considered an asset
  • Experience working with campers aged 141
  • Experience leading 37 day backcountry wilderness trips in a variety of skill sets (canoe, sea kayak, hike)
  • 20 days of experience leading 17 day wilderness camping trips
  • Technical skills in wilderness camping and travel
  • Knowledgeable in Outtrips practices and its risk management considerations
  • Skills in teaching wilderness camping and tripping skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Basic skills in all camp program areas
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR C
  • Current and satisfactory Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector
