SCOPE

Reporting to the Technical Officer, the incumbent is responsible for the design, development, maintenance and support of the teaching and research laboratories in the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering.

The incumbent is responsible to ensure that the labs are available, the equipment is in working order, and there are sufficient supplies.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain and monitor laboratories, including supplies, equipment, inventory, and perform various activities related to
  • Supervise, design and coordinate lab sessions in various courses, including ordering, organizing and preparing lab supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain sensitive equipment, including calibration.
  • Design and plan lab development. Participate in equipment purchases and installation.
  • Provide technical support and act as a resource person to students and faculty members.
  • Recommend lab demonstrators assignment.
  • Supervise and train lab demonstrators.
  • Administer lab exams and prepare grades.
  • Develop, maintain and update user training guides, lab manuals, tutorials and instructional aids.
  • Perform other lab support activities as required, including backup of other technical staff as required.
  • Perform inspection of all the teaching and research laboratories in the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering. Perform other health and safety related activities as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering or related field with two to four years of work experience in computer hardware, computer networking, software engineering, and related fields. Master's Degree is an asset.
  • Experience with Arduino kits or similar, Atanua logic simulator or similar, network simulators.
  • Good knowledge (Level 4) of spoken and written English language skills. Basic knowledge (Level 3) of spoken French.
  • Good knowledge (intermediate level) of Word and Excel.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure with mínimal supervision.
  • Keen attention to details.
  • Aptitude to work in a serviceoriented environment.
  • Good analytical and problemsolving skills.
  • Prior experience in university environment is an asset.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations is an asset. Physical ability to occasionally lift/carry/move without assistance up to 23 kg (50 lbs.) and with assistance up to 34 kg (75 lbs.)
