Position Overview

Champlain Media West Inc., is looking for an experienced television/film Accountant, eager to work out of our Burnaby office.

Overseeing all production accounting in Champlain Media West's two regional production centres, The Head of Production Accounting will report to the Head of Production, and support producers, whilst managing the accounting team of 6-8 individuals in Burnaby and Kelowna.

Main Responsibilities

  • Request weekly funding draws for all shows
  • Develop Cost Reports weekly
  • Setup of all shows for Accounting purposes
  • Oversee the Payroll Department
  • Supervise and guide Account Payables Clerks
  • Ensure proper labour coding across all shows
  • Design and implement various control procedures
  • Maintain, grow and develop digitizing solutions
  • Manage production accounting database for digital paperwork (users, access etc)
  • Review and approve costs related to the shows in line with Studio principles & guidelines
  • Manage and coordinate recoupment schedules with Business Affairs
  • Maintain payment schedules for various departments
  • Mentor, train and guide production accounting staff
  • Advise production departments and corporate (studio)
  • Reconcile all shows prior to hand over to post production accounting
  • Report quarterly to the parent company
  • Prepare bank reconciliations for various entities
  • Prepare monthly GST filings
  • Supervise teams remotely and inperson
  • Travel as needed
  • Other duties as required by the position
Experience and Qualifications

  • Postsecondary certificate or diploma/degree, training and experience
  • A minimum of 10 plus years of progressive experience in film and entertainment corporate and production accounting
  • Leadership, team building, mentoring experience and acumen
  • Experience working within a corporate structure
  • Experience leading an Accounting team, confident in making decisions
  • Exceptionally strong communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Outlook Applications and Movie Magic budgeting
  • Experience with film accounting software, preferably PSL
  • Ability to perform successfully with mínimal supervision
  • Able to produce accurate work and handle multiple tasks
  • Strong organizational skills and detailoriented
  • Eagerness to learn and become a strong contributing member to our team
